Nice form factor for low power wireless node

Recommended Posts

Saw this on DP and checked out the author's blog. Neat way of producing a inexpensive, small form factor wireless data acquisition node. Two AA cells and the board all in a cheap three cell AA enclosure. Would be cool to see this adapted to a TI MCU.

As far as I can tell, the cost for a single one of these "devices" would be around $10-$15 USD. Not too bad for 900Mhz radio I suppose. If all you need is close range wireless though I think that Atmel sells an MCU with a BLE MAC on die for $2.47 in lots of 1ku. So for close range IoT I personally think this would or could be a better solution.

As far as wireless MSP430's go . . .an MSP430G2553 + ESP8266 could be possible for half the cost of the above linked solution. PCB included. Depending.

EDIT:

So . . . https://www.sparkfun.com/products/12031 + MSP430G2553 == ~$10USD. But sparkfun is notoriously expensive so . . .
