Pre-purchase of EZ430-Chronos

Recommended Posts

hi,

complete newb to this side of the world, and I've stumbled upon the ez430-chronos and id like to know a couple of things about it to see if it could be the perfect accessory!

I'm looking for a programmable watch of sorts. my perfect watch would have a customisable face. a half hourly and hourly chime, a selection of wake up alarm (with specific / loud) sound. a selection of specifically timed chimes throughout the day.

and just to top of the perfection list, to have a vibrating function.

i understand that the ez430 has a whole bunch of sensors and extras... but if the basis of what I'm looking for can be implemented in this watch, then I'm totally sold!

i do realise that this would all require coding, and that i can do (my googlefoo is unbeknown!)

thanks for your time!

Welcome to 43oh!

You could do all you asked for except the vibrating function. There is no place to put a pager motor in there, maybe outside.

TI's wiki has alot of projects on the chronos: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EZ430-Chronos

You may want to do a search here on Chronos. Some have noticed the LCD fading out. Just FYI.

Battery life is around 27 months in LPM3/Time date mode @9.0uA. I attached the table below.

Also check out the following open source projects:

https://github.com/poelzi/OpenChronos

http://ez430chronosnet.sourceforge.net/

http://sourceforge.net/projects/ez430chronos/

Hope this helps.

thanks for the links.

No, this thing was available long before the term smartwatch was coined. Don't expect it to run android wear or stuff like that, it's a microcontroller development system, not a scaled down smartphone.

Also, the display is not a high resolution pixel screen, it's a digital watch face, with a bunch of sweet extras.
