Fred 453
Be a little wary of Avnet webinars. It seems you get heavily spammed afterwards. I'm not sure if anyone who registered for the FR5969 one ever got their dev kits. http://forum.43oh.com/topic/5790-register-to-be-eligible-for-a-free-fram-mcu-dev-kit-bundles-courtesy-of-avnet-and-ti/ Why would anyone want to use an 8-bit microcontrollers these days when 16 and even 32 bit are cheap and low power? tripwire, bluehash and spirilis
bluehash 1,581
True. I no longer subscribe to any UBM webinars. My inbox gets spammed to death.
spirilis 1,265
Yep just not worth the cost of my time... I am narrowing my focus these days on which MCUs I care about Sent from my Galaxy Note II with Tapatalk
vinicius.jlantunes 50
I will admit I registered just so I would get a new toy (to sit unopened with others in a stack). That alone is embarrassing, but now knowing I will be also spammed makes an even greater fool of me
abecedarian 330
It's funny how 8051 just doesn't want to die. >shrug< enl and tripwire
rockets4kids 204
Gotta love 8051 instructions running in a single clock cycle at 100 MHz!
enl 227
8051 (and derivatives) will not die as long as a) there are applications for it 2) it is cheap iii) there are legacy applications where there is no reason to replace it/recode -..) manufacturers keep upgrading the peripherals to meet new needs That said, I haven't touched one in maybe 20 years. Or a PIC for a good 10.... I wasn't a great PIC fan when they hit the market, and still am not. Both architectures serve a purpose, and have done so for quite a few years, tho. abecedarian

You don't see the 8051 as a stand-alone part any more, you see it embedded into other chips. In that realm, the 8051 has become the de-facto architecture and it will likely stay that way for some time to come. I do suspect that at some point that ARM will supplant the 8051, and the only real question is when that will happen.
abecedarian 330
Well, used my company email and haven't received any unexpected spam... just the typical emails from TI, Freescale, and a few vendors I've subscribed to... and reminders I need to get vaccinated before I can build any more cell sites Washington and Oregon hospitals. Did get this from SiLabs though: Someone will be reaching out to you shortly to get your shipping information for the EFM8 kit you won for answering the survey. nickn 5
Just got mine today A strange thing that I noticed is that one usb connector is a micro and the other is a mini, you would think that they would use one or the other but not both.
SteveR 20
@@nickn I have not gotten mine. I did get an email telling me a distributor would contact me for my address, but have not heard. Did you get contacted by a distributor, or did it just show up? Are you in the US? nickn 5
@@SteveR After not receiving any emails for a week after the Webinar, I called Avnet and I eventually was transferred to somebody that knew what I was talking about and took my address. I never got the email saying that a distributor would contact me for my address. I do live in the US. SteveR
