Its an ARM cortex with a plethora of peripherals. May come in handy standalone or interface it to the Launchpad :)

Interesting! I signed up. I will be comparing a few ARM, FPGA, and DSP options in the future anyways. Why not start with something that is free? :-)

Thanks for your interest in the NXP mbed Design Challenge! Your mbed NXP LPC1768 contest kit has shipped.

Very cool, but I don't think I'll get to mess with it very soon. I'm having a heck of a time trying to get my LCD working (with a 595 and in 4-bit mode to cut down on pins).

Just received mine today (well, actually it came in the mail on Monday, but I've been out of town). It's pretty neat. One thing I would advise doing is making a backup of the MBED.HTML file that comes on the board. That is the only way to check if your firmware is up to date.

 

Now, to write a how-to on compiling code offline, to reduce dependency on the cloud compiler. Apparently it's possible to build code with arm-gcc and the current development SVN of the mbed libraries. I'm going to look into it and do a write up on my blog when I have the process figured out.
