RobG 1,892
When I was almost done with my MSP430F5418A based RGB pixel controller (see pic below,) someone has suggested using Raspberry Pi. That gave me an idea, how about Stellaris LaunchPad? It would save me soldering work, parts, it would allow me to pack more stuff on a 4" x 4" PCB, it's wickedly powerful, and it would be removable. So here's the mock up. LaunchPad will be plugged on top of the board. There will be 8 data channels (or universes) and one clock output. It will have isolated RS-485 input and output, optional XBee, optional WIZ820io Ethernet module, optional SD Card, 4 Flash memory chip sockets, and some more features. Sweet! Isn't this the light controller from 43oh that you had done a while back? I believe I have 2-3 units left.
RobG 1,892
Well, the PCB I used for the mockup is from my MIDI light controller, howerver, the new controller will be used to drive smart pixels.

RobG 1,892
First draft, pretty much done but I will rotate SLP to see if I can make it a little bit cleaner. WIZ820io is not included as I figured RS-485 will be much better option. I will create Ethernet to RS-485 bridge if necessary.
RobG 1,892
Rotated LP, connections are now shorter. Little more cleanup and off to fab. Lord anubis and bluehash
bluehash 1,581
I did not see the Xbee before. Looks good. I'll probably wire mine to the WizFi210 boosterpack over the Stellaris.

bluehash 1,581
Is that..is that custom? Wow! You should enter this into TI's BoosterPack competition.
RobG 1,892
I think I will and yes, it's custom. Will work on Mac and PC.
aBUGSworstnightmare 1
Hi RobG, real cool! Can't wait to see your first demonstration video. Your pixel editor looks really good. Would be glad if you could post some details on the communication protocol since it could be useful for working with my TLC59116 based 'Starlight' units too. RobG 1,892
My pixel editor will be controller independent. It will create an xml file in Open Pixel Format ( ) which can then be processed by controller specific converter, a simple utility that could be used to convert or even program a flash chip. PM me some details about your controller and I will see what I can do for you. bluehash
