abecedarian 330
Just found out they approved me and shipped the kit today. I was afraid they wouldn't because of when the promo started versus when I applied. -edit to add: It's shipping 1 day UPS. Cool.
abecedarian 330
I didn't realize UPS also had the "by Noon" option on this shipment... and it arrived before noon. After extricating it from the shipping box- Front: Back: ... and on the desk: There is a mention in the User Guide that JP7 is connected by default. I don't know if you can see it in the photos, but JP7 is just above the unpopulated connector pads.... Anyhow, the Guide says it's connected by default, as in there should be a jumper there, but mine came without any jumpers installed, nor any in a separate baggie... not a single one. That "jumper", when installed routes sound to the on-board speaker, and when not to the 1/8" jack. bluehash
Fred 453
Whilst that looks like a nice board - especially for free - the last thing I need is another processor architecture to learn. I'll stick with MSP430, STM8 and ARM for now. abecedarian
abecedarian 330
No faults. I'm new to this and am sampling the gamut.
txf 0
Haha, The item is indeed free, Shipping costs at least 60USD.... Moreover, I would like to know where, and why, these Renesas MCUs are actually used.

abecedarian 330
@_txf_ - I didn't have to pay any shipping. @neslekkim - I don't remember the actual day but it was just over a week before receiving notification it was shipped, so probably Sept 20-21 when I applied. I just remember two weekends passed. If it's still on their page it's probably still valid.
neslekkim 0
according to the page, the coupon code still was there, and they have 11 boards left, but after going through the whole process, i get this message: "Promotion "RENESASFREE NEW" is temporarily not available at this time." So, out of luck And the board is not that expensive, $25, but hey, shipping cost of $73?? gosh.. not gonna happen I'm just hoarding anyway, so I can live without it.. gwdeveloper 275
If you've grabbed one or two of these Renesas kits, you'll want to get one of these... http://www.futureelectronics.com/en/technologies/development-tools/development-tool-hardware/Pages/3002283-RDK-ADDERBOARD.aspx?IM=0 I've got a small amount of experience on this kit from the contest in 2010. It's a good piece of hardware. Definitely recommend using the GnuRX tools. FreeRTOS runs great on it and has a lot of support. abecedarian and bluehash

The promo code to enter is "RENESASFREE", not "RENESASFREE NEW". That may be part of the error. I'll be picking one of those up soon. FWIW, the RX62n board I received came pre-loaded with demo ware using Micrium's uC/OS-III, which is an 'officially supported' RTOS for the chip, and a full-length, as in reference type (just shy of 900 pages), PDF explaining the OS... and the license is pretty liberal too, from what I remember reading. I also registered with a corporate email address, not a live of gmail account, so that may have something to do with it.
abecedarian 330
A quick check at the site says they have 9 available.

Yes, But it changes the text on its own, tried again now, and I get an different message "RENESASFREE NEW: Renesas Now FREE Promotion Boards" I enter "RENESASFREE" as last time, but it comes the NEW part in the text as last time. This time the card was free, but still, shippingcost of $
gwdeveloper 275
Are you guys trying to get this from AVnet or direct from Renesas? I recently scored another board directly from Renesas. Free overnight shipping, it came from DigiKey. This link shows the stock at all distributors. Use the big red button on this page to get a freebie. http://am.renesas.com/products/tools/introductory_evaluation_tools/renesas_demo_kits/yrdkrx62n/index.jsp
neslekkim 0
well, I used the link at the top of this page, avnet, but renesas also have this info: "Promotion open to United States, Canada and Mexico. Offer good while supplies last. Students and hobbyist are not eligible. Other restrictions may apply." I'm from Norway, so I'm out of biz
