Updates and going forward

Recommended Posts

I'm still here, though not doing much with TI chips because I'm now using nRF51 chips (which I'm pretty happy with).  Personally, I concur with @@Fred about putting Energia somewhere else.  It's a fine system with a lot of traction, but programming with Energia is not really relevant to those of us who work on bare metal MCUs, and vice-versa.  Over the past several months I've frequently noticed a topic and though "Looks interesting...oh wait, Energia."  The degree of mixing waters down the value for both communities, in my opinion.

I agree with @@zeke43oh is a strong brand. Stellaris no longer exists, it is now Tiva.

Keep 43oh as a single entry for all the MCUs, LaunchPads, BoosterPacks and TI-based products, with section for each family of products.

Cross-platform tools like CCS and Energia would benefit from that and have their own dedicate section.

If going to merge, would be nice if stellarisiti.com URL remained and kept it's current structure, so links to posts would not break

(either links in old messages here, or links from outside - don't know how many of those there are).

Having the base stellarisiti.com point to a subforum here would be okay.

Would be nice to be able to get a "recent posts" filtered to just include material from tiva forums and general forums

(so if I am only interested in tiva/stellaris chips, I don't have to wade through a lot of MSP430 material, but

I can still find out about for sale, etc.).

Likewise an updates listing that just covers MSP430 (without going into tiva/beaglebone/etc.) and general.

(In both cases, give option to include or not include new Energia material - unless that makes it too complex.)

Might consider increasing number of tags allowed (think one of the fora only allows 2 or 3 tags).

Also, if there is a way to provide some standard pre-defined tags to help categorize items (and an easy way to see what tags others have used).  (e.g. in Energia section, could be nice to have a few tags for the platforms involved.)

All in one solution is good because you don't have to switch between several sites, however, large number of posts will make things difficult.

The best solution would be a single forum with filtering capability.

For example, when I come in, I want to be able to see new content just in 430 section, no CCxxxx or other (looks like CC is taking over 430 space, those posts should really be moved to ARM space.) A row of check boxes somewhere on top would be nice: 430, CC, Tiva/ARM, C2K, BBB, etc., you check what you want to look at and any action would bring up only posts from the appropriate section.

I also say one forum for all TI chips instead of "devide and conquier". As some other said, I too didn't even know of some of the other chip forums. Filtering of e.g. msp430 only content would indeed be good. Do the merge if the server can handle it, lagging is annoying for users and more tend to go away then, I hope hosting Energia doesn't slow down the server. Looking forward to Ipboard v4.0 although I personally prefer open source software/forums like phpbb, but there must be a reason why you use Ipboard.
