How do you upload code on the MSP430?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

It seems to be a very basic question but i just cant find my way through CCS 4.

Could anyone help by text/video/teamviewer?

PS; Are there any books for learning about the launchpad for begginers?

Thanks!

Are you successful in compiling code yet?

If so then you are two keypresses away from running your code in your LP.

Look along the top of the Code Composer Studio window. See the word Project? Good.

Look right below it. See the green bug icon? Press it!

The window will spew stuff and then the workspace will switch over to the debug context. Don't worry.

Next, along the top, look for the green triangle pointing right. It looks like the Play Button. Press it.

You are now running your code.

I personally don't know of any better way of learning how to use CCS other than just using it and ask a lot of questions. Don't worry about wrecking anything. You can always erase and reprogram the device.

Have no fear. Ask questions. Make mistakes. Learn from them. Each iteration is a step closer to nerdy awesomeness :o:D

Oh, I forgot. If you're into IRC there's a chance that someone will be lurking there. You could ask questions in real time.

Click on the IRC above.

Oh, I just remembered one more thing.

Take a look at the MSP430 Newbies Thread. It's chock full of links and info that will help you out.

I found this a bit tedious, too.

However, you can set the project to "Build automatically" and always stay in Debug mode - once you save the file you're working on, it will automatically compile and upload to the target.

But the FET (programmer/debugger) can be used with other software as well.

I've done that too. It's handy.

But, if you are developing a program that uses interrupts (and you've stopped it after an interrupt has fired) then you'll have to manually stop the debugging before you rebuild the project otherwise CCS will lose control over the target and you'll have to force-ably kick out of debug mode to recover.

What exactly do you mean?

I wanted to try out the 'breathing led effect code' so i copy pasted that onto the 'main.c' file.

After that, i clicked the green bug button, but i get an error saying 'program file does not exist'.

Did i miss a step between that?

Also, i had another question-

Can i use pwn with this Microcontroller (MSP430G2231)?
