gatesphere 45
A Heath-Zenith Microcomputer Learning Kit, Model ETW-3400-A. EDIT: Just plugged it in, and it works! I just need to find a manual. :D:D RobG, bluehash and jsolarski
bluehash 1,581
Good find. The art of dumpster diving.
zeke 693
Dumpster dove into ancient history! That is about 36 years old - circa 1977. Here's some pdf manuals for it. It's a Motorola processor. I think it's a MC6800 CPU but I can't be sure. The photo on the above page is kinda blurry. gatesphere
gatesphere 45
Thanks for the manual, zeke! And yeah, it's a Motorola MC6808P.
zeke 693
My intuition says that you program that thing in chicken pecking assembly. It would take a while to code in keypresses.
gatesphere 45
Yeah... but I have some experience with 86HC11 asm, and this doesn't seem to be that much different, from looking at the manual. Still, a neat (and expensive) toy to find in a dumpster.
GeekDoc 226
Wow! Nice find! Dumpster diving FTW! I have no qualms about dumpster diving, especially if it's a good location or I see something cool peeking out. I once found a bunch of rack-mount A/V control equipment in (and next to) a dumpster. Someone had evidently refitted a conference room and dumped the old stuff! Nothing much I could use, but some cleaning and photos netted me about $300 on eBay!
gatesphere 45
I know! I just went back for a second trip to see what else I could find, found a nice Tektronix PG 501 Pulse Generator (without the rack... ah well) and an Eico 1171 Resistance Decade box. I fully intend to go back tomorrow and get the rest of the goodies I couldn't reach without jumping in. RobG
RobG 1,892
Recycling rules! Back in 2000, I was at my local junkyard getting some plastic sheets for a project. Ended up buying three 2511 access servers @ $100 a piece. Guess what they were selling for on eBay back then (when everyone was trying to get their CCNA?)

gatesphere 45
...aaaannd a Heathkit ET-3100. I really should just jump in by now. I've pretty much received the go-ahead by the building's administrators, I just need to find the time.
zeke 693
Sheesh! What kind of building is this? A technical institute?
