Project's in the Works?

Recommended Posts

Just thought I would share some idea's of some my future projects and get feed back on what projects some of you are working on.

1. Color Organ - A mic, the Analog input, some Color LED's changing color to the music. or maybe USB input from a computer to drive it from MP3 output.

2. Audio Spectrum Analyzer

3. Stepper Motor Controller - logic input control (Step, Direction), maybe a smart USB or SPI interface

4. Line following Robot.... maybe make it solar powered....

5. Weather monitoring station.

6. 8X8 DOT matrix and 5X7 DOT matrix display routines

7. 3D LED cube

The list is not in any particular order. Depends on what I feel like doing at any given point.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't deal with only 1 project.

1. Greenhouse/Garden controller based on Evapotranspiration

2. Money Math game for the kiddo (based on arduino so she can easily work with it too.)

3. Egg incubator sensor monitor. (tilt, temp, humidity & water levels. maybe SSR to control temp and fan)

4. Wireless Evalbot control from either a CapSense Boosted Launchpad (wireless UART) or from MSP-exp430f5529 (needs simpliciTI)

Yeah... They did not have ADHD drugs when I was a kid... Trying to get mine a little more interested using microcomputers for other then playing games...

Just put out my plants out in the vegetable garden, some future time want to build a small Green house/Cold store for starting my own plants early/Keeping those that are perennial.

The ones on top of my list are:

1. Light controller (christmas, party, etc.)

2. Electronic door lock (with LCD, guest/temp access, etc.)

3. Controlling Roomba (first using built in serial, then maybe gutting it out and building own logic board.)

4. Iambic keyer

5. Ethernet -> X-10 Controller

Current things buzzing round my head...

#1 Get the 16x2 LCD displaying something.

#2 A vague idea for a toothbrush timer project (something to countdown when the kids are brushing their teeth).

#3 An oven controller (but can't bring myself to pay out ~

Working but in need of debugging/improvement:

-- Pong

-- Stroboscopic guitar tuner (done, but on a breadboard. want brighter LED's)

Partially working:

-- Display driver for Sure 0832 LED Matrix (scrolls string entered by terminal, need to expand functionality, add multidisplay support)

-- ultrasonic rangefinder with serial interface based on this: http://www.kerrywong.com/2011/01/22/a-sensitive-diy-ultrasonic-range-sensor/ I get too many erroneous readings, but generally working.

Tossing around in my head:

-- MSP430 - based HDD clock using laptop hard drive.

-- Something with the bunch of ultrasonic transmitters/receivers I built: I think I'd like to attach 2 or 3 receivers to an rf2500 dev board and use it to bi/triangulate the position of a transmitter. Sortof a local area positioning system. Not sure if it's feasible without dsp (filtering out echos, etc.) Not sure if I need higher resolution time measurements for this vs rangefinding.

I won't be entering anything in this month's POTM though, end of semester cram time, going on vacation around the 20th.

TUSB3410/F2274 Control board (I have this working now, refining it.)

FT232RL/F2274 Control board (To replace crappy TUSB3410, everything on order.)

Modular 8x8 matrix signage... I'm getting closer to having an example prototype.

Some random TLC5940 stuff (I got 5 on sample with plans to make a light bar).. Thinking of changing it to an RGB matrix.

Otherwise... I have a ton of random chips and stuff that I need to play with.

I'd like to build a clock/count-up/count-down timer for the lab. It will help me keep track of the time spent on customer projects.

I'm also thinking about an irrigation controller for the garden and the fruit trees.

And, an indoor/outdoor thermometer system using the Dallas one wire temp sensors.

BPM counter - low pass filter and amp pretty much done

Stepper motor control - 2 steppers or 4 dc motors and Brushless motor control

2 channel IR controllor - based on the remote for the micro Helicopters

keyless entry with RFID

and my UAV (work in progress, currently on hold for weight issues)
