Energia forum on 43oh vs. on Stellarisiti

Recommended Posts

@@energia @@bluehash
As far as the maintainers of Energia are concerned, what is the relation between the Energia forums on Stellarisiti and those here on 43oh?

As far as I can see, the energia website and documentation only point people to the 43oh forums for posting questions (regardless of which launchpad they are using Energia with).

"The Energia discussion forum is hosted on 43oh.com courtesy of bluehash."

http://energia.nu/help.html
https://github.com/energia/Energia/blob/master/www/help.html

and in the page footers for documentation corrections suggestions, e.g. http://energia.nu/guide/tutorial_digitalpins/

Yet here people suggest that people posting questions relating to Energia on Tiva/Stellaris post their
questions on Stellarisiti.  (Which makes sense to me, unless the forums there do not get as many

readers as the ones here, or unless the Energia maintainers don't frequent those forums as much.)

If it is preferred that Tiva/Stellaris questions be posted on the stellarisiti Energia forum, then it would be nice if the energia website and documentation mentioned that forum also.  (Save people here some bother of pointing people to that forum, and give a nicer experience to newbies who might feel like they are getting the runaround to have the web site tell them to post here, then have people here point them over to stellarisiti).  It would also make sense to add such a link/suggestion to the "Information to Provide When Asking for Help" stickied topic.

On the other hand, do Energia documentation/web site corrections, suggestions, etc. only belong in this forum (even if they relate to Tiva/Stellaris)?

Thanks.

Now that the C2000 Launchpad is supported by Energia we will need to create an Energia subforum at C2KCentral.

<Why are people booing and throwing tomatoes at me?>

Seriously though I am in favor of a centralized forum at 43oh for all things Energia, or perhaps a separate forum altogether.  However, I wouldn't be in favor of burdening bluehash with more administrative work as a result.

I just recently jumped in with a TM4C129. It would also help if people included which board they are working with in their posting title. I have had to read through many posts to find that it's about the LM4 which appears to have more users. From what I gather from the docs even the 123 and 129 have significant differences. I agree the naming conventions add to the confusion.

If this forum software supports it, making the Stellarisiti Energia "forum" into a link to 43oh's Energia forum might be the way to go.

I too agree that having two forums is a little rough sometimes.

I read both and use both classes of chip, so it's not a huge deal, but it's a bit confusing at times.

Also agree on putting chip designation in the post title. With this large of a variety it's important to know.

This is a good idea. I'll ask the @@energia maintainer if that is ok to do.

A potential problem with that would be lack of notification of new postings.

If postings in the Energia forum would only show on 43oh, then people who read Stellarisiti would be less likely to see postings on the

Energia forum.  (I just check the View New Contents page, and from that see if there is anything I am interested in reading.)

Since I do read both fora this would not be a particular problem for me, however if people just read Stellarisiti (and I expect there are some,

though they probably won't see this discussion either), then they would be less likely to respond to posts here.

Now if it can be made so that postings in these fora show up in the new postings listing on Stellarisiti, then great.

Designating which launchpad in the title would help, as would having some standard tags for the various launchpads (not that people could be relied on to use them, but if there was a reminder when posting here about particular standard tags, then might make easier).

@igor

Although notifications are not possible.. it might be possible to pull 43oh energia threads from here and show them on Stellarisiti.

Edit 1:

I'm running a small test in the Off-topic forum, where I'm pulling topics from the Energia forum on Stellarisiti( it would be the opposite for the real application )

http://forum.43oh.com/forum/16-off-topic-forum/

There is a "View the full article" link at the end of each post which points to the appropriate Stellarisiti post.

One thing I'll have to figure out is how to autolock the topics...otherwise there will be two sets of discussions.

I still think that all of the sites should share a common forum, each with sections relative to the architecture.  This would keep everything contained and also expose other users to the other relevant platforms.

I hardly even bother checking C2k Central and Stellarisiti anymore, since there is just so little activity.

Since the cross-posting thing can add the text about "view full article," can it add a reminder to not post followups here? e.g.

"Please do not respond in this thread, please go to the original posting on stellarisiti to view the full discussion and to post replies."

"This is part of a test to pull Energia posts to 43oh.  Unfortunately, I become the poster."

(Or however you want to say it.)

Something like that might help to cut down on confusion until get the autolocks portion working.

Thanks.

@@igor Thank you for that.

I have made some fixes and also made a test post. So far it is working ok.

Please let me know if you have any issues.

I don't know how flexible the cross-posting mechanism is, but how about posting the original text marked up as quote to make it clearer that it wasn't @@bluehash asking the question?

@@chicken Unable to add a quote as the backend does not allow that feature. But there is a note at the bottom mentioning that it is a cross-post.

Edit: An idea - I can create a new user StellarisEnergiaCrossPost that can post it, instead of me.
