How much power can the LaunchPad provide?

I'm trying to create an interface to collect data from some sensors using MSP-EXP430F5529LP.


The sensor setup is powered with 3.3V and draws about 10mA. I noticed J10 on the LP has 3.3V and GND. When powered with USB, can this provide enough power?


If not, I'll need to hook up VREF+ and VREF-. According to the data sheets these are pins P5.0 and P5.1. How can I hook up to these, as they don't seem to have a place on the 40-pin headers?

The USB standard says a couple of things about current sourcing:

- 100mA at minimum

- 500mA when configured by end point

- 2000mA when configured by end point and the USB host can handle it.


If you tap into the signal EZFET_VBUS then you can get pure 5V from the USB host.


There is a TPS62237 step-down regulator on the LP. It can supply 500mA MAX.


Download the MSP-EXP430F5529LP Hardware design files  and dig into the PDF schematic in the hardware sub-directory.


You will find that you could get at P5.0 because it goes to the on-board debugger but P5.1 goes nowhere.
