Size of binary

Recommended Posts

Hi alltogether,

I have a short question. How do I find out the size of a binary? I wrote a small programm, and in CCS6 the *.out ist more than 32kb big, and with MSPGCC the *.elf file is more than 30kb. I can not belief this, cause the programm is not that big.

Greetings,

SVen

Thanks for the reply. In the moment I can not load the code to the MSP430, cause I don't have one here. Sitting in Turkey and playing in my free time in the hotel with the code. I thought, that the *.elf file is directly the binary, that is loaded to the MSP.  I attached the code. Is there a possibility to find out how big it will be, without a MSP430 here?

Greetings,

Sven

Here. I took your code and compiled it.

The elf file actually contains more information than what will be programmed to the MSP430. Most of this extra information is used for debugging.

If you compile with mspgcc. Then the msp430-size command will tell you the size that your program needs on your MSP430.
