You need to install http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/MSPDS_Open_Source_Package aka tilib. It replaces the uif method in mspdebug. Energia comes with a binary of it.

If you don't want to go the energia route, and you have archlinux you can install https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/mspds/. If you're on another distro you could look inside here and run the compiling commands manually.

I am using debian. I have only added libmsp430.so from Energia to the library Path directory and now standard mspdebug(0.22) from debian repo works good. :)

I installed energia. I can connect and programme an example called "Blink" that comes part of energia. But when I run mspdebug directly on command line, I still get:

MSPDebug version 0.22 - debugging tool for MSP430 MCUs
Copyright (C) 2009-2013 Daniel Beer <dlbeer@gmail.com>

tilib: can't find libmsp430.so: libmsp430.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have copied the library from energia folder to /usr/bin where mspdebug resides. I also copied it to my current working directory from where I launched mspdebug. The error is the same. Please help!

BTW, I did not build mspdebug from source. I downloaded the binary from Ubuntu site for Trusty Tahir (14.04LTS).
