GeekDoc 226
hmmm.. any reason why that one? There are cheaper alternatives. I'm guessing the PC connectivity, though I don't think I've ever had a use for that. I like my Fluke 87 that I got for free!
zeke 693
The last meter I bought was in 1985. I still have it. It still works fine. So, I'm not going for cheap. I'm going for good because it's going to be with me for the next 40 years. It's got Speed, 4.5 digits accuracy and an orange VFD screen. I saw one at a trade show. The thing is simply amazing. Built like a tank.
JMLB 24
almost all multimeter have pc connectivity. They almost all have a serial port. It is simply not broken out to the user. I saw an instruct able about it some where
zeke 693
Only meters that have been designed and constructed in this century may have a serial port. My present meter was designed and constructed in the 1980's. It's a Beckman Circuitmate DM25. I just tried googling it and I came up with nothing. Pretty bad if you ask me. GeekDoc 226
almost all multimeter have pc connectivity. They almost all have a serial port. It is simply not broken out to the user. I saw an instruct able about it some where Google doesn't seem to know of a serial port hack for the Fluke 87. Have you seen one somewhere? (Honestly, my Fluke is one of the few things I'd be hesitant to hack. :? )
bluehash 1,581
Model 87-iv has a serial IR port. http://www.pewa.de/DATENBLATT/DBL_FL_FL ... GLISCH.PDF
JMLB 24
This is the article a read http://flashingleds.wordpress.com/2010/11/30/unlocking-rs232-output-from-your-multimeter/ There is a band of products within the handheld multimeter market which, regardless of the manufacturer, are all based around an IC family from Taiwanese manufacturer CyrusTek. You can see this in Dave Jones bluehash
JMLB 24
the fluke 87 seem to be using a TI multimeter chip. m430f449 I can't find the data sheet though. I sent an email to a supplier. we will wait and see.
zeke 693
Is this what you're looking for? Or maybe it's found here? BTW, I'm thinking that TI should come over to this website and sponsor us (read: shower us with love) because we use so many of their devices in our stuff.
JMLB 24
naw its a M430 not MSP. I think it might be a msp430 with the program all ready loaded. if you google M430F449 you will get distributors calling it a multimeter chip. I got 117 quotes this morning after posting I wanted the datasheet. none gave me the data sheet lol. I also got like 20000 msn requests. This might have been a bad Idea. luckily the msn was a scrap msn that I use for occasions like this
zeke 693
It could be a masked ROM version of the F449. Yuck, sounds like you were out trolling the seedier side of the internet last night and woke up in a cheap motel in questionable health. Still got your kidneys? zeke 693
BTW, all that I get when I google for "multimeter chip" is some obscure links to a couple of multimeter chips made by New Japan Radio. Check out the NJU9207B and the NJU9212.
