  • 3 weeks later...

Received mine yesterday.

Power / data connection cable is identical to the GU128x32 one offered previously. And I was happy to see that when I plugged it in to the F5529 LP 5v header (lower left on the board), I had a nice blue 'underscore' cursor appear on the display, instead of the 'faint red lines' on the GU128x32. The location of the connector on the lower edge of the board made the board want to fall over forward, which was a little odd

Now, since Noritake is a 'sponsor' of 43oh, maybe they can start providing code for more than Atmel / Arduino. I'm sure a phone call or two to TI could get them more than a few of each LaunchPad to play with, and probably a few of the other EXP kits as well.

This would be a nice information panel for many purposes though the character size might be a bit small- around 2.5mm wide and 3.5mm tall, best my eyes can measure. I've already been thinking about how I could integrate this, and the GU display as well (the little one ), into a dashboard for my motorcycle. Even though it's only 6 lines, that's 12 variables I could easily display, and toss in the GU for a more analog look at some things and all that within less than a 4" x 4" display panel... and it's less than 3' from my face.

Yes, I'm babbling. Feel free to ignore me. B)

To illustrate, maybe:

XYZ -------- TPS | MAP -------- ZYX
ABC -------- CLT | IAT -------- CBA
et cetera, and not to scale.

@@spirilis - Processor choice might have to do with this being a character display and not dot matrix like the GU displays?

Indeed that would be why this has a lower-end 8/16-bit type of MCU (unlike the 32-bitter on the GU512x32), but the exact arch (R8C) is a successor to the older H8, so it's still evidence of a "newer" design regardless :)
