EmBlocks

Free EmBlocks 1.40 with MSP430 and mspdebug support

Recommended Posts

This version has a GDB 7.6.1 for MSP430.

Downloaded EmBlocks 1.45 and tried to use with MSP-FET430UIF at COM4 and COM1 - unfortunately in both cases could not connect

The message, that I got, is the following

Building to ensure sources are up-to-date

Build succeeded

Selecting target:

Debug

Adding file: bin\Debug\EmBlockTest.elf

Adding source dir: D:\fwDesigns\MSP430\EmBlockTest\

Adding source dir: D:\fwDesigns\MSP430\EmBlockTest\

Starting debugger:

Debugger finished with status 1

In text terminal window it said that could not find the interface on COM1.

What do I do wrong?

Hi,

You could try to start with the GDB server, if this one is working all the other pieces will start to work.

You can find the mspdebug GDB server at {$EMBLOCKS}\share\contrib\mspdebug. Select the right driver and com port and see if it connects.

Mspdebug manual : http://mspdebug.sourceforge.net/manual.html

I'm not sure but I think that mspdebug will also have problems with certain USB3 ports because it is using libusb.

usbutil: unable to find device matching 0451:f430 with serial COM4

After that I tried IAR. It found the adapter on COM4 (as I set before) and download a code to the connected uC.

Is there anything else I could try?

Check your USB ports. If it is USB3 then you could have a problem with non-compatible libusb drivers.

If you are using the UIF then I believe it could also be a firmware problem but I don't remember the exact details.

Perhaps:

http://mspdebug.sourceforge.net/tilib.html

Once I had to downgrade the UIF in order to get it working with mspdebug.

But, to be honest,  I'm not a mspdebug expert and only provides the binary without knowing the ins and outs of the tool.
