RobG 1,892
WS2812B is the new and improved version of the WS2812 LED (a.k.a. 5050/WS2811.) For chip details and differences between WS2812, see attached. I have LED and 30LED/m, 60LED/m strip samples (no, not free ) available on Tindie. jpnorair 340
Nice find. Apparently it is more efficient/bright than the old 2812, so that can't be bad. I want some.
Rickta59 589
So do these actually seem brighter than the ones from the original group buy?
RobG 1,892
Not a big difference, if any (they do look brighter on the picture, but I guess it's because the strip is black.) Looks like blue and green LEDs are different and they do seem just a bit brighter (at 3.6V blue and green, at 5V only green.) Then again, my eyes are pretty tired in the evening, especially after playing with strips for couple of hours roadrunner84
roadrunner84 466
I think they actually are a little brighter, the bleeding of the light is worse on the top strip
RobG 1,892
Forgot to add that WS2812B strips have different connection layout, data line is in the middle (no big deal if you use wires to connect.)
tingo 22
the 30 / 60 LEDs / m in your post versus the 15 / 30 LEDs / m on the Tindie page had me confused for a bit. Anyway, I want to play with these, so I ordered a couple.
RobG 1,892
30/60 is per meter. I am selling 0.5m pieces, so they have 15/30 LEDs.
tingo 22
Yes, as I said I was confused. :-)
RobG 1,892
FYI, white strips (60/m) are now available.
matt79 0
The WS2812 use 5 of the 6 pins (one of them is disconnected), and 2 of them are for Vdd. The WS2812B has 4 pins, so it's a little simpler. They're essentially the same chip, although according to my spec sheets, the 'protocol' timing is a little different, but the same library should be able to be used for both. RobG 1,892
WS2812D, an 8mm RGB LED with integrated WS2811, will be available in my store next week. enl, spirilis and JWoodrell
RobG 1,892
Well, looks like after small run, WS2812D are discontinued. Too bad, they were perfect for making LED cubes. bluehash
greeeg 460
Well, looks like after small run, WS2812D are discontinued. Too bad, they were perfect for making LED cubes. Noooooo. I was going to use them to do exactly that as a future project!!! :'( Any indication as to why they were discontinued? They seem like a good idea.
abecedarian 330
It'd be cool if they'd done these with the pins in a square instead of inline.
