any experience with "international versions" of books?

Recommended Posts

I have read the book "MSP430 Microcontroller Basics" by John Davies and I would like to get a hardcopy of this fantastic (IMHO) book, but I simply cannot afford the $47 for a new copy from Amazon. I found an International Version on AbeBooks for $19 shipped. The description says that the ISBN and the cover may be different but the text is the same. I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this type of book?

Or if anyone has a used copy that they would be willing to sell for under $20, I'd much rather keep my cash local...

Thanks guys...

I bought those "international copy" books when i was in university, from McGraw Hill and Prentice Hall. Yes content wise they are identical (except one rare case on accounting the original provided some exercise that is not in intl copy). The only differences are the mark that reads something like "not for sale in ...", and never in hard cover. The paper may be thinner in intl version. We are thankful to the publishers for offering these less expensive books.

Check http://store.elsevier.com/product.jsp?isbn=9780124115880&utm_source=email/TI+marketing&utm_medium=newnes&utm_campaign=MakerFaire&_requestid=130912#

 - they have it on sale for about $9 USD.  Might be able to get free international shipping as well.

One hint - they've got some bug where you can't create an account at the same time as you place an order. Create an account first - then check out.

There is a preview of "Getting Started With the MSP430 Launchpad" somewhere on the web.  It appears to be nothing more than an introduction to Energia/Arduino, and not a very good one at that.  If you want to learn Energia, it is probably worth $9, though.

meh... I couldn't find a preview or download of it.. so I went ahead and bought it. I think the 50% off price ended today. When it gets here, I'll let y'all know. Maybe it won't be so bad....
