Help needed!

Recommended Posts

Hi all!

I am a newbie using the MSP430. Do u all have any ideas how can i set up a chasing light circuit with 20 LEDs instead of the usual 8? I am only given MSP430, a battery, 20 Leds and some wires.

Thanks in advance!

Hi newbie,

Welcome to the forums.

First - please use an appropriate title next time you post.

There are examples of Charlieplexing or you could even multiplex your pins.

Also, this looks like a homework/assignment post . Even if it is, its ok, but you need to show some thought flow for us to help you rather than dish out code.

Here is one way:

1. setup the timer in up mode

2. use 2 char vars for counting, one for column and one for row

3. in timer's interrupt routine, increase counters and reset when necessary, set ports

You will also need 4-5 current limiting resistors for your LEDs.

If you decide to use multiplexing, you will need 9 pins, so you will have to use port 2.6 or 2.7

If you choose Charlieplexing, then you will only need 5 pins.
