Looking for a small MSP430 board

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I have been looking for a small MSP430 based board, something similar to arduino pro mini. Basically I'd be happy with a board that would have the MCU, 3.3V (LDO) regulator, a pullup for the reset and test points where I can solder the rest of the stuff I need (or to solder a pin headet to use it on a breadboard). So, is there anything like this available, or should I just build my own. (Or use Atmel MCUs...)

Cheers,

Mikko

If you're comfortable using CCS, don't require Energia or LaunchPad compatibility and don't mind spending some money ($20 to get started), you might also want to check out the ez430 development platform. The detachable target boards are positively tiny.

PS: Didn't know that TI sells 3 MSP430F2012 target boards for $10!

If you have good eyes, you can build your own DIY P2P http://forum.43oh.com/topic/2775-msp430-usb-benchmark/

MSP430F550x have internal 5V to 3.3V LDO, and can be connected to PC by USB. There is USB BSL, so basically there is no need for any development/debugging/flashing tool.

Or maybe something like this https://www.olimex.com/Products/MSP430/Starter/MSP430-5510STK/

Thanks for you ideas. I think I will give MSP430F2012 target board a go if I can figure out what to do with the missing regulator. Absolute maximum for Vcc to Vss seems to be 4.1V, so a fully charged LiPo cell slightly exceeds that. Maybe I'll just add a schotky diode to drop the voltage a bit.

By the way, the actual price for the target boards seems to be 15$, not 10$. https://estore.ti.com/EZ430-T2012-MSP430-USB-Stick-F2012-Board-P955.aspx

Yeah, they went up at the same time as the LaunchPad increase.  Good thing I have a few. ;-)

Still, not too bad a price.

Looks like TI has trouble to keep all pages in sync, still listed at $10 on the page I linked - but yeah, once you click through to the store the price is $15. Same for the other EZ430 dev kits listed on that page.
