rebeltaz 36
My girlfriend wanted a Betta fish for Valentine's Day. When we got it home, I realized that it was a Tropical fish needing warm water - a slight problem in the winter. Using a coffee pot and the MSP430, I hacked together a (I think) pretty cool fish tank that not only looks good, but keep the little guy at a happy 75-80 degrees. Rather than rewrite everything, I am just going to link to my web page - I hope that is ok? http://www.robotsandcomputers.com/robots/projects/cpfishtank.htm roadrunner84, EngIP, SirPatrick and 4 others

Is the blue color ok for the fish?
rebeltaz 36
Nice and easy. Is the blue color ok for the fish? Hmm... I never thought about being a problem. It doesn't stay on all the time, but I guess we'll find out

I think you are thinking in Celsius While I do prefer metrics for woodworking, here in the States we're kinda used to Fahrenheit. lol
rockets4kids 204
A 4 degree temperature swing is quite a bit for fish. You should see if you can implement a PID loop to PWM the heater element to keep it within +/- 1 degree at all times.

I may try that this summer when the heater won't be as necessary.

gwdeveloper 275
THANK YOU! I am glad you guys here like this. I have never seen so much condemnation over a fish tank in all my life! (via HaD) Man, I had to go back and look at the HaD comments after seeing this post. Your tank looks like a much better environment for your beta than any other I've seen in a store. They're acting like you built a sous vide rig for a daily beta snack. Ridiculous.
cubeberg 540
Just think - those comments are WITH moderation. Before they added that - they were way worse. They're acting like you built a sous vide rig for a daily beta snack. Ridiculous. BUT - if you do decide to sous vide some beta fish - you totally could! gwdeveloper
