Just noticed this on the TI valueline list. http://www.ti.com/product/msp430g2955 Not many details, even though it's marked Active and not preview. No Datasheet, no summary. Just the specs.   Key F

So they are releasing PDIP-40 versions then.  The TI news article mentions the MSP430 LaunchPad Expansion board, available in May -- https://www.olimex.com/Products/MSP430/Booster/MSP430-G2744BP/?DCMP

It was showing up in the parametric search. What's more, PS lists 44 parts, but the product tree has 45 parts.   BTW, remember this?

Yea, looked at the pinout. You'd lose all of port 4, but you'd also lose AVcc and

AVss. The datasheet has no information on if or how or when those should be connected, or what it is used for (aside from the adc, natch). Unlike Atmel, which has a section on the analog voltage pins. But two thin magnet wires to tie those pins to dvcc and dvss.

Interesting....seems like they're gunning for the Arduino chips indeed

But this also means they have to increase the flash limits of the free version of CCS right?  Does anyone know the code efficiency (flash size) taken of MSP430 vs. AtMega328 code?

The base bootloader on the Arduino is at least 2Kb.

Still, 16kB is good for many projects, plus we always have GCC if we need to use something else. But maybe TI will keep seeing the light and make it a 32kB code limit for CCS at the minimum at least for the Value Line chips.

Assuming they did a launchpad( or any other type of dev board for that matter ) for these new chips, they could very easily board lock CCS for unlimited use. Like with the Stellaris launchpad.
