Elecrow PCB Service - Free color

Recommended Posts

I just got a message from Elecrow that they will be trying to figure out the problem with black paint.

Just to be clear, this is mostly cosmetic than anything else. I hardly see any copper exposed, so there should be no issues when soldering.

BTW, I didn't tell them about this problem, they took proactive step, great service again.

Also, I got my boards from Elecrow in 2 weeks!!!

I am still waiting for my boards from Seeed that were ordered 3 weeks ago (and I looks like I will have to wait another week.)

I have a batch of 100 PCBs for the store from them. Will update when they arrive.

There was some discussion about the Elecrow PCB service on another thread, so I figured I'd make a post here as well (Bluehash - please move someplace else if it's more appropriate). Color is free -

Update: Looks like they are shipping them. Just got a pic(below). Looks like they worked over the weekend.

What do you mean when you say barely any copper is exposed? Dit they use a solder finish? Don't they offer ENIG or HASL which goes also on the tracks before the paint is applied? How are the vias done? they need to be plated in some way from the inside, just plain copper, or solder finished as well?

RobG - did you get your read boards yet? Just wondering how those turned out.

  • 2 weeks later...

I got my red boards from Elecrow and they are beautiful!

The only thing is minor misalignement of large holes (for 0.1" headers.) Each hole is in different place, so it looks like loose drill or something.

Not a problem for me, headers fit nicely and this is only visible with magnifying glass.

All small holes (vias) are perfect.

Also tried the thinnest board they have, 0.6mm, awesome! Will definitely order that thickness again.

Wow - I did some 0.8 boards for my wearable board - they were crazy thin.  Is the 0.6 so thin it's flexible?  0.8 was pretty bendy as well.

**Edit** - Good to know the red came out well.  I've got a couple of boards almost ready to send out (wanted to batch up a couple of designs).  I'm probably going to try a red and a blue board

0.6mm is bendy, but not flexible.

Hmmm.... not a fan. Unless you have a super good need for 0.6mm, its usually not worth the risk. Smaller the thickness the more likley the board will warp under heat. Doesn't take much of a warp to screw over any 0.5mm pitch parts. I suppose if your hand soldering everything it doesn't matter to much but beware if your using a oven.

Nice! How small did you go?

Just got my boards... 2 cents-

The vias were all tented, a little weird b/c I don't recall unchecking the vias box in the soldermask layers.  Seeed and OSHpark never tent them.  Not a problem, just minor point to note.

The drill holes are indeed slightly offset or something.  Probably not an issue, I'll see once I assemble a couple.

They gave me exactly 10 boards, Seeed always seems to toss in 1 or 2 extra.  Not a big deal, Elecrow is cheaper anyhow!

The red color is very nice, looks closer to the TI LaunchPad board's red color than Seeed's slightly orange-ish red.

A couple PTH holes had some greenish-yellow specks of crud in them, but it wiped away (and there was HASL solder underneath so it's not like a corroded un-HASL'd pad or anything).

(my faulty 1st edition F5172 board up above, with Seeed's orange-ish red color for comparison sake)
