Okay, I'm thinking:

1     1     1     1
   2 2 2
1   (1/3) (1/3) 1
   2 (2/4) 2
1   (1/3) (1/3) 1
   2 2 2
1     1     1     1

Don't know if that makes sense....

"1" are LED's on the bottom level,

"2" are LED's on the second level up

"3" are LED's on the third level up

"4" is the sole LED at the top.

Note the 1/3 are LED's in the same row/column but different level (1 on the bottom, 3 on the third layer up) and 2/4 is similar, with the 2 and 4 LED's on the second and top layer, respectively. So, it's 16 LED's on the bottom layer, 9 LED's on the next, 4 on the 3rd and 1 at the top, for a total of 30 LED's.

Okay, I'm thinking:

1     1     1     1
   2 2 2
1   (1/3) (1/3) 1
   2 (2/4) 2
1   (1/3) (1/3) 1
   2 2 2
1     1     1     1

So, like I said, bit-shifting animations don't work properly.

Might be something more worthy of the LM4F Launchpad with its DSP?

a binary clock mayhaps?!....

I feel the same way sometimes. I know a bit about electronics (nothing solid , just bits and pieces from trying to get into the hobby many times before) , but it's still something that I have never had the urge to just sit there and experiment and figure stuff out .

I guess I got over-excited with the capabilities of the msp , and what I want out of it.  I should start with an LED  counter/meter of a sort... oh where to start...

Okay, I've decided to do it like this, concentric rings:

[1] [1] [1] [1]
  [2] [2] [2]
[1] [3] [3] [1]
  [2] [4] [2]
[1] [3] [3] [1]
  [2] [2] [2]
[1] [1] [1] [1]
Layer 1 (on the board) & Layer 3 (3rd level up) make a common cathode 4x4 matrix.

Layer 2 (second level up) & Layer 4 (4th level = apex of the pyramid)make a common cathode 3x3 matrix.

Any considerations?
