LaunchPad IR Receiver

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I just encounter an interesting problem.. haha.. When I use 3.6V as my Vcc (connected from the launch pad), it work just fine, but when i supply the Vcc using 3.3V voltage regulator(LM1117), it doesn't work.. Does the 0.3V really makes the difference?  ;-)

Best Regards,

Kent

The Vishay IR receivers can be rather erratic without the RC filter shown in the data sheet. I have seen then oscillate, output noise, have short range, and in general just not work right without the filter. They also can be rather picky about supply voltage.

Love the dog pic!

Do you have more advise on choosing and using an IR receiver? In particular for getting a receiver that can read at distance and not be filtered by carrier modulation.

Haha, thanks, I love my profile pic also.. =P

The datasheet stated the receiver can take 2.5 to 5.5V as supply voltage, but hmm.... i am gonna try what RobG suggested, use TSOP38238 instead. Or make a 3.6V voltage regulator instead.

Looks like older versions of TSOP1138 were 5V, newer are 2.5V. You can verify this by looking at the date code (or if you ripped it out of the circa 2000 VCR, then you know the date  )

Making your LDO 3.6V is easy, just add 2 resistors (1k & 11k for example.)

The only difference between fixed and adjustable is the built in resistor divider, see page 2

Connect resistors as they are on page 9, and adjust values to get 3.6V (start with 1k & 11k, but do not connect to MSP until you are sure your Vout is <3.6V.)

Connecting just a single resistor to GND should work too.

I tested a little with the ir receiver and build a small robot proto using the launchpad, 2 motors(different types, i didn`t have 2 of the same kind) some old 6v battery, a l293 and TSOP31238

PS: I used energia for coding.

I`m working on v2, so it can learn new ir commands from any remote you have around without havng to remap the commands every time you switch the remote. And building a transceiver witch can turn all things @ with only 1 remote from @ the corner ~ some kind of a relay.

Meanwhile got a new ideea, how about i control the little robot over the internet with a transceiver ir with some php and serial and mapping the data send from any remote to some sql database on the pc :!!!:

Hi,

In my project i need to send some data(eg:volume) measured using msp430g2231 to another msp430g2231 using ir method. can anyone suggest how the ir transmission and receiving can be implemented using the same?

thank you
