pro547 0
I still haven't gotten my launchpad, but have started thinking of bigger projects that need more ram than the value series and was wondering if the launchpad can program the bigger brother of the value line? In search for other bigger microcontrollers I have started looking at the 1xx and 2xx series.
cde 334
It can program any msp430 chip that has spybiwire, you would just need to adapt it to the proper lines. Of course, this is limited by any code-limits on your ide of choice (IAR, CCS, MSPGCC) They are releasing a new line of the msp430 valueline chips, with more memory (256) and code space (8k). OCY 19
F1xx chips do not have SBW. Some F2xx do. I am more interested in F5xx and F6xx.
pro547 0
I plan on using the msp430 GCC. Is the limitation still present when using GCC?
OCY 19
The Launchpad hardware and the firmware inside the F1611 chip on the board does not support 4-wire JTAG.
GeekDoc 226
The Launchpad hardware and the firmware inside the F1611 chip on the board does not support 4-wire JTAG. I think we're just looking at SBW interface here.
cde 334
I plan on using the msp430 GCC. Is the limitation still present when using GCC? No code limitations in MSPGCC. Don't know if Launchpad itself is supported, but I'm sure it is.
jsolarski 94
No code limitations in MSPGCC. Don't know if Launchpad itself is supported, but I'm sure it is. mspgcc is just the compiler you would either need mspdebug or {gdb, msp}proxy to actually program the launchpad. MSPdebug has worked great for me without issue using the rf2500 driver
pro547 0
Thanks jsolarski. I am still learning and getting excited to program with the 430 so learning about this stuff will help me when I get my 430 this weekend.
NJC 17
You can easily program the 55xx chips with the LaunchPad (once you have the chip soldered in somewhere).
kmmankad 0
Since we're talking abt bigger chips, has any1 tried out the new 8kb versions?
