Constructing page...

So people (You know who you are ;) ) have been requesting that i do a part kit group buy for rob's boosterpack. So lets begin.

This group buy is for part kits for rob's cc2500 boosterpack/breakout, AND a way to get bulk discount prices on some components

The kit

The part kit would include everything required to make / populate rob's cc2500 breakout/boosterpack, which would be:

Active

1 - 64Kbit EEPROM (25AA640A-I/SN)

1 - 64Kbit SRAM (23K640-I/SN)

2 - MSP430G2553 MCU (MSP430G2553IPW20)

2 - Voltage Regulators (TPS77301DGK)

Passive

6 - 0.1uF ceramic capacitors (0805)

2 - 0.1uF ceramic capacitors (0805)

2 - 1nF ceramic capacitors (0805)

4 - 1uF electrolytic capacitors (SMC_A)

2 - 47K resistors (0805)

2 - 6.8K resistors (0805)

2 - 3.3K resistors (0805)

Other

2 - 2x40 2.54mm male header strip

1 - 1x40 2.54mm male header strip

1 - 1x40 2.54mm female header strip

Price: TBD

Shipping: TBD

The Components

if you want, you can also get some components at a bulk price. Price breaks are calculated by the total ordered by the group.

MSP430G2553IPW20 (MSP430G2553 in a TSSOP20 package)

Normally priced around at $2.78 each.

  • 1 to 99 $2.15 each
    100 to 249 $1.95 each
    250+ $1.75 each

23K256-I/SN(256KB SPI SRAM)

Normally priced around at $1.62 each.

  • 1 to 9 $1.62 each
    10 to 24 $1.06 each
    25 and up $1.02 each

TPS77301DGK(LDO rated at 250mA and is Adjustable(1.5 to 5.5V). Used on Launchpad too)

Flat price of $1.40 since no price break exists.

We should consider other chips too, not just 23K256. For example, 23K640 (8K bytes) is half the price of 23K256.

Also, some might want to use EEPROM instead of SRAM, so maybe bundle both.

25AA640A @ $0.43

23K640 @ $0.62

Avnet has also great prices on MSP and TPS, they are out of stock of MSPs, but usually once the order is placed, they will get them.

Hmm... Yeah, Avnet does have exellent prices for MSP430 chips, But the lead time is 2 months :|

I am new here, not sure how these groups buys work. Is it too early to say I want 3 of these?

Not too early, but maybe a bit premature. The smart guys are still figuring out the best contents for the kit, then they can get a price quote and figure out if it's feasible.

But hey, if you're in for three no matter what, early is better! :D

After doing some part sourcing, i can tell you that you can expect the cost of the kit to be around the $10 range. I'll see if i can trim that figure down. Still not bad considering what you get...
