MSP430 launchpad as a "usb to serial/TTL" interface

Recommended Posts

One of the chips on the emulation half of the launchpad gives it UART functionality via pins 1.1 (TX) and 1.2 (RX). So if you wanted only the other chip to communicate over uart, remove whatever mcu is current in the launchpad and bring out wires from 1.1, 1.2 and ground to your other chip. I assume this signals are at 3.3V so thats something to keep in mind, depending on what you are doing with it. Or if you also wanted the TI chip I think setting them two pins as inputs should work.
