bluehash 1,581
NJC has built a MSP430F5510 breakout called the Dev.Break. The second product available in my new online store is the DEV.BREAK! This board is simply a breakout board for the MSP430F5510 (or really any other chip with the 48LQFP package). This board doesn't require much explanation as it just breaks out all of the MSP430F5510's pins to a breadboard-able size. In a standard breadboard the DEV.BREAK leaves room for one row of wires on each side. Would you guys be interested in this if it were added to the Store? gatImmusepete
SirZusa 34
i am actually creating some LQFP-48 - breakouts ... asked some pcb-creators and waiting for the responses if you're interested i can order a bigger quantity and ship them to you

I looked at those before. However, they seemed too expensive when you consider that you can get 3 of these http://www.seeedstudio.com/depot/xqfp-breakout-board-05mm-p-755.html?cPath=175_177 for the same cost. The DP board also supports the 64 and 80 pin devices. -rick
bluehash 1,581
Yes.. I made him aware of that. We'll try to go as low as possible.
bluehash 1,581
Would it be more appealing if it came assembled? gatImmusepete
Rickta59 589
The least appealing thing about it, is that It really isn't specific to the msp430f5510. That board is just a pin break out for 48 pin QFP chips. No usb connector, no decoupling capacitor, no XTAL provision, no BSL connector, no reset button, no pullup resistor. There is nothing that makes it a break out board specific to the msp430f5510. The bigger problem I see with trying to sell something like is the competition from itead / seeedstudio / dorkbotpdx prototype pcb services. They all make it so inexpensive, it stifles any reason to do anything other than design your own custom board and have them manufacture it. I recently looked into making some boards at home. I don't have a laser printer, I don't have the chemicals, nor the raw copper clad boards. When you add up the cost of printing, chemicals, and the copper clad boards it only makes sense if you are building a different board every couple of days or you are trying to keep your design confidential. We are in a sad state when I can have something actually manufactured half way around the world, have it shipped here on a plane and get it delivered to my door step for less than it costs me to drive to a local store just to buy the materials. I live in the boonies so just driving to radio shack cost me more than $15. downer> -rick bluehash, luke and gatImmusepete
oPossum 1,083
- No bypass cap (must be close to supply pins) - No pullup resistor on RESET - No program/debug connector - No MSP430 specific pin lables No Thanks bluehash
bluehash 1,581
Thanks for your input. Much appreciated. gatImmusepete
oPossum 1,083
This is what I would expect a MSP430F5510 breakout to look like... All the components would be on the bottom so the top can have very clear labels for the pins. Pins grouped by port and ordered by bit. It would have bypass caps, all USB related circuitry, and optional xtal(s). Programming header on left, and USB mini B (or micro or right (bottom of board). Less than 50 x 25 mm, so 2 could fit on a 50 x 50 panel, so potentially less than $1 per board. Basically a larger version of this 28 pin BOB If anyone want to try to route this, let me know and I'll post the CAD files - too busy to do it myself right now. bluehash
SirZusa 34
I also began to do a breakout, but i didn't want to make a msp430f55xx-only breakout. Why? Because it's hard to sell in time (probably no problem over longer period - but i must finance them first). You can only get the best price when buying a higher quantity - but how much can you sell of these breakouts? Just ask the people in this forum. (I got the best discount for a quantity of about 200-250 pieces - depending on the size (~63mm x 23 mm)) 1$ / board with tin-finish, solder-mask etc.? Where do you order? (i can't go under 1 gatImmusepete
bluehash 1,581
Thanks SZ, i like your boards and designs - but i think they have some lacks and are too specific for the msp430 only Not mine, but someone else's. I was just looking for interest. You can only get the best price when buying a higher quantity - but how much can you sell of these breakouts? Just ask the people in this forum.
