I wonder... what would need modified on these to attach an external antennae?

 

The resistor network that adapts the impedance to the antenna would (probably) need to be changed. It's relatively tough to get it right, and it's likely that you'd get worse performance than is there already. But you could test it out and see I guess. If you found an external antenna that has the same impedance as the PCB antenna, it might be simple, but I wouldn't know what the PCB antenna impedance is, and I think many external antennas are 50 ohm impedance.
