Fred 453
Talk about bad luck. I have a full lot of old rev boards in the Store now. It sounds like they may be collectors' items. People may pay double to have unsoldered headers! To add my voice to the debate, I don't have any problem with TI standardising on headers and presoldering them. Those just starting out may be happy with a breadboard and jumpers but scared of soldering. If you know what you're doing then desoldering or having the IC on a breadboard and using the LP just for programming works OK.
zeke 693
I have to point out that having the male headers soldered into the LP indicates that whoever made that choice is about 45 years old. That's THE ONLY WAY it was done about 20-25 years ago. At that time, the prevailing attitude of EE's was "Breadboarding is for losers". No, don't attack me. I was a EET back then and had to suffer with those EE's. I don't believe that for a second. I'm just revealing the mindset for ages ago and it may explain how the choice was made now. Oh, and if anyone is interested in those M-M adapters, I got them from iTead.

Ah, thanks. Now I know where my preference for male headers is coming from. I've ordered 3 LPs yesterday to get some of the more powerful chips. Lets start praying... leomar01 8
I think they should go with female headers and include the aforementioned male-male headers. So you have female headers at both ends (launchpad and boosterpacks) and the male headers that get sometimes damaged (I often bend pins accidentially when removing shield/booster packs) are easily replaceable. Also there are no problems with shorts. And you're still compatible to all kinds of boosterpacks regardless of male or female headers. I allready do it like that on my launchpad
username 198
So its random as to whether or not you will get the new chips? huh... intresting I could try asking a TI rep at work about this..... Anyone else got access to TI reps?

I just received two Launchpad boards today (ordered a few days ago, IIRC) and they were version 1.4 boards (darn!!!)... Sent off a message to the TI eStore asking for an RMA and order fulfillment with the version 1.5 boards...

That is what I did with my newly obtained 1.4 boards. My feeling is this, the more the msp430 community grows the more opportunities we have to grow with it. Just my 2 cents. Ignore as appropriate. -rick

At $4.30, and for TI to send them to me by next day FedEx to Canada, I know its a relatively big loss leader and wouldn't feel right getting them to waste even more money about it since technically there is no way to specify if you want 1.4 or 1.5 so its like playing the lottery. chopc 0
Just checking with the TI E store and the 2553 are out of stock for a while , so maybe the Launchpads will ship with the smaller older style chips for a while ?? Also Checked with the Australian supplier (Element14) they have fairly large stocks of older Launchpads so not much chance of seeing the 2553s here for a while !! Mac 67
Sorry for the rant guys. I've been holding off ordering boards for several months while waiting for the new version. My gripe is that you're "ordering blind" from the TI eStore. There's nothing on the eStore to tell you what version they have. Cheerful regards, Mike
Rickta59 589
... I've been holding off ordering boards for several months while waiting for the new version. ... I wonder how many they have in stock in the US? Hopefully, once they have depleted that warehouse of boards they will announce the new version. Is there anyone with TI contacts that might shine some light on this? -rick
RobG 1,892
They didn't announce this officially, all LP descriptions list 2231/2211, so I would assume that the chances of getting 1.5 version right now are slim. They probably shipped few 1.5 to get some feedback.
