DanAndDusty 62
I had the COMBOSENSOR pack arrive the other day. Opened it today and and got a very nice surprise. One of the sample chip packages is marked with MSP430BT5190IPZ.. Didn't remember that being the part so looked it up Here.. Key drool points are .... Designed for Bluetooth solutions Fully Integrated LDO With Programmable Regulated Core Supply Voltage Upto 25MHz 256K Flash 16K SRAM 4xUSCI_A+4xUSCI_B 32x32 Multiplier Sounded really really nice.. Hmmm.. 100LQFP Package.. Not seen one of those.. wonder what they look like... Opened it up and inside its an MSP430F2003 as the details for the COMBOSENSOR states and I was indeed expecting initially... I think TI owe me atleast one of the BT5190s as compensation for the emotional rollercoaster ride Made for a very happy 10 mins though The fact that they have a samples label for the BT5190 though has me wondering if there is a similar pack available/planned using this device.. These packs don't include ANY literature (apart from shipping/packing notes).. And I don't particularly mean that there is a pack using that chip for smoke/gas detection.. Its more that I found it interesting that they have an "IC Sample Pack" label for the device. It is possible that when printing the label they pick a device from a list of all their devices and someone had a slip on their keyboard, its nice to dream and hope though isn't it

zeke 693
The BT5190 is just a 5438 with a different ID. They say it's optimized for bluetooth somehow.

I believe that means it has a licensed bluetooth stack on board. Probably cypress. Apparently mindtree. http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php ... atform_FAQ And there seems to be an ez430 kit for bluetooth.
MarkoeZ 68
The motor drive sample kit arrived today. Again, chips only, useful stuff though. But i have no idea how i'd connect the stellaris controller to anything (on the right in the image). Even if i were to have a breakout board made, i'd have no idea how to solder it. Do they have sockets for those? Edit: Google tells me reflow soldering appears to be the method, but I'm not going to attempt that anytime soon.

The packaging is hilarious - a Fedex medium box for stuff which would easily fit inside a small envelope I too was disappointed by the BGA package of the Stellaris MCU. This was the part I would have liked to use first, and was hoping for LQFP packaging there... Whats also strange: the National page for the LM5101 states it as 'not recommended for new designs'. jim940 28
I ordered all 3 kits, and it seems that the Sensor one is coming in first. So I was wondering if anyone had any advice on companies that produce compatible sensors for it that are decent? Jim

Any chance to handle solder wire to the pins for programming?
