MSP432P401R can't compile or connect

I'm trying to connect the MSP432P401R and it keeps giving me this error when I try to verify:

Error compiling for board RED LaunchPad w/ msp432 EMT (48MHz).

 

I'm just running the blinking light demo code. I've tried all the sereal ports and keep getting the same error. ideas?
