zeke 693
Must... resist.... $75 is way more than I can afford at this time... but it is such a nice offer.. :? Self-control and self-discipline are virtues worth cultivating. There's more important things like bills and food and kids (if you have them) and peace with the wife (if you have one). My reasoning is this: if I have a project that I'm developing and it just so happens to depend upon this technology then it's a good choice to buy it ie: gwdeveloper's project. If not then I'll walk away. I'm just being tempted to spend money on an impulse. The deal is not worth it if you're emotionally churning about it. Your peace of mind and heart are more important than having a new shiny gizmo. xpg

gwdeveloper 275
Zeke is right. Gotta pay the bills, feed the kiddo and keep peace with the wife. OT: We have a pretty good deal running... If something breaks, I call and get repair estimates. Then, I fix whatever it is myself. After its all done, I get to put 20% of the cost difference into a project/toy fund. I haven't had a repairman in the house in years for anything. Last year fixing the A/C and dryer put a nice chunk into my toy fund. This year, it's been auto repairs, house siding and minor home repairs. So when the pipe burst at the foundation, I had no issues cutting open the wall, busting up the concrete and getting it done... I wanted another toy.

Put $10 per week in and buy a scope at the end of the year.
gwdeveloper 275
You forgot self-satisfaction and the amount of knowledge you gain. Absolutely! I like being able to say "Yeah, I can fix that." And feeling good after it's done is even better. But the best is knowing all of your wife's friends are jealous. Once you have a project/toy fund, you'll still question all purchases. I've been saving towards a desktop cnc machine but the SEH kit was the only tool I was hoping for. Just had to do it. zborgerd 62
I know exactly how it goes. I just replaced a faulty power supply / mainboard in an induction cooktop. Replaced some parts in an oven. Put new brakes on a car / Replaced a swaybar bushing / replaced coolant. Etc. There is always a learning curve, but once you do it you could do it again in your sleep (I'm getting really good at brakes at this point). Plus, you save a lot of money. I've been waiting for deal on TI wireless hardware and couldn't turn this one down. It's not the kit that I really want, but it might be cool to see the energy harvesting functions. MarkoeZ 68
I think the RF2500T's are the most valuable part of that deal. Each RF2500T is $20. It's like they threw in the solar stuff for another $15. Nice deal but I'm going to pass this one up for now. This one made me think. I am indeed most interested in the wireless boards, and i could just get 2 for 40 to start with. Don't really have a use for the solar panel yet, since it's not powerful enough to drive the stuff i'm working with atm. I would find a use probably, but i think i'm going to save the money for a nice C2000 dev kit with free CCS4 after the webinar: http://www.43oh.com/2011/08/attend-avnet-c2000-webinar-get-ccs-v4-free/ Thanks! Fred 453
What is it about large companies and shipping? My SEH kit arrived today but the extra RF2500T board is being shipped separately. That's not a problem for me, but it surely can't be cost effective or environmentally friendly to send that tiny board on its own (no doubt packed in a box which is securely padded and packed inside another box). Why not just tuck it inside the SEH tool box?
