CCS 7.0 beta available

Recommended Posts

The only thing I've noticed so far is that there's nothing about licensing.

I was wondering whether my current CCS licences would work - one from a couple of years ago with a Piccolo ControlStick, and one in the current "free with a Launchpad" promotion.

Are they about to ditch licencing altogether and ran a quick promo to sell a few Launchpads? Is it just missing from the beta - which also didn't need the usual approval step? A few weeks should reveal all.

@carlb   With the introduction of v6 of CCS, v5 license holders were offered a free upgrade to v6.  The feeling at the time was that they were going to continue to offer free upgrades with upcoming versions.

Seems like the market is moving toward manufacturers providing the tools at lower cost (or free). This is likely due to competitive pressures and the desire not to let the tool chain cost be a barrier to MCU design-in's with the resulting revenue from volume production. Bottom line is they want to sell lots of chips with most everything around that considered a cost of doing business.  Case in point are the Launchpads which in most cases look to be loss leaders.

I tried to install CSS 7 Beta on my mac and got this message - repeatedly:

Frequent CCS crashes with MacOS Sierra  https://e2e.ti.com/support/development_tools/code_composer_studio/f/81/t/556117

...Additionally, the installer for CCS 7.0.0 beta is very unstable and crashed multiple times before I could get the installation to begin...

Also, for the Nov 21 2016 release:

Good point. I just had a look and stumbled over the CC3220, CC3220S and CC3220SF. I found a single reference to the CC3220 on E2E which concluded with "you discuss unannounced product on public forum".

There is also reference to the CC3220S(F)-LAUNCHXL on Mouser and Octopart but nothing there. I'm sure this happened with the MSP432 Launchpad too.
