  1. Hello, I am thinking on starting a new project, a web controlled robot!!! I was wondering if anyone has any experience with using an (Arduino)Ethernet shield with the MSP launchpad?? My plan is to build something like this: http://www.lynxmotion.net/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6343 Or if anyone has any other ideas for easy, cheap web interaction with the launchpad. I don't want to use a wifi shield, because I would like to add video streaming in the future and wifi shields are not very video friendly. Thanks
  2. Hello! I have built VFD clock with MSP430. The tubes Soviet IV-6. Sorry bad picture...
  3. So i received my MSP430 USB launchpad yesterday. I got the blink program to work on CCS5. I am interested in making a USB mass storage device so I downloaded the msp430 USB developer package. It is a zip file and when I unzip it, I get a large heirarchy of folders and enclosed files. This might seem like a stupid question, but Where are these supposed to go? Does it matter? And the demo projects for CCS contain *.projectspec files. How do you use these? Another related question, how can you find/build the pre-installed HID/MSC demo that lets you create two files on the mass storage dev
  4. Hi all! This is my first post on 43oh forum. I am currently working on a project which i think the 43oh community members will like. Project Description: The main aim of the project was to create a Simple, Easy to control Graphic User Interface (GUI) to control various pins on MSP430 Launchpad (MSP430g2553 uC). The GUI for this purpose was created using Visual C# and can be used on any Windows based System. (GUI in action)
  5. Hi everybody, I have ordered some lm75a sensors from eBay and after careful SMD soldering on a SOIC to DIP converter, I am trying to get these sensors to work with the Launchpad and Energia. Somehow this is more difficult than expected (especially after connecting a RTC chip and a light sensor with ease). Has anyone tried to get these sensors to work with the Launchpad? What kind of pullups are needed? Does anyone have example code? And finally I tried this on the new release of Energia, has anything changed with the I2C code? Kind regards, Eelco Rouw
  6. I was wondering if there is any pre-existing code out there for CCS v5 and an msp430f2102-ish type device? I'd like to setup a tiny project that monitors an I2C bus and logs filtered transactions over UART.. Specific addresses or data values, for instance. The uart terminal program then could timestamp the log data, so I don't really need to worry about that part. It's not ultra-critical, the data would just be useful to decypher in a side project I'm working on.. so honestly I am hoping that something like this already exists that I can just load-and-run and log the data.. post-proces
  7. Hi, I have a MSP-EXP430G2 Rev. 1.4 with ....G2231 installed. I have disconnected the on-board emulator supply by removing the J3-VCC jumper. All info on the web and TI literature that I have found so far state that to power up the MCU, I must provide a 47K pull up from RST to VCC (3.6V). The schematic for the Launchpad indicates that the pull up is actually on the board already. Whether I assume that the on-board pull up is really there or connect my own external resistor, the mcu will not power up and begin execution. The only thing that seems to work is to tie RST directly to VCC.
  8. Hello everybody! I bought an msp430 launchpad sometime ago but just got around to play with it now. This site is a great source of information. I look forward to join this awesome community!
  9. Hello, This is my first post. I'm familiar with Arduino and I wanted to try the MSP430 with Energia. So I bought myself an MSP-EXP430F5529LP. Problem is it is not supported out of the box with Energia in the boards.txt file. So I made an addition to the boards.txt file: ############################################################## lpmsp430f5529.name=LaunchPad w/ msp430f5529 lpmsp430f5529.upload.protocol=rf2500 lpmsp430f5529.upload.maximum_size=16384 lpmsp430f5529.build.mcu=msp430f5529 lpmsp430f5529.build.f_cpu=16000000L lpmsp430f5529.build.core=msp430 lpmsp430f5529.build.varia
  10. A shooter action game for the ez430 Chronos wristwatch. I made this game in one afternoon. The backlight effects can barely be seen on the video and the SFX are still very primitive. Hopefully it can be improved in a v2. Someone told me to share it here ;-)
  11. After many hours of working on displays, buttons, menu systems and so on, here is my result work. (The clock somehow lags significantly up to 5 minutes in about 6 hours) But i haven't try the new RTC library yet. Maybe that fixes this issue. I have to fix that and also i will make the PCB and external voltage supply for the launchpad etc. The system works as i want for now. I can set the clock (standalone), set the alarm time, set the light modes (i made three modes: light fades in 10 minutes earlier gradually, 20 minutes and 30 minutes earlier) buzzer works if you set it at just at the alarm
  12. I was poking around on ti.com today, and I was pleasantly surprised as I noted two product families that are now public. The datasheet and user-guide dates are not super-new, but there has been little fanfare and somehow I missed it. Maybe the reason is because I've spent the last 6 months working mainly on Cortex-M. But anyway... 1. RF430F5978 I have been working with this for a long time, in private (i.e. there are libraries and board support in OpenTag). It's really cool, because it combines a CC430F5137 with a 134kHz passive RF IC. One cool app you can do with it is wireless char
  13. Recently I've been doing a lot of work with STM32L. The asynchronous RTOS that I had previous built for MSP430F5/F6 is now working nicely on STM32L. I'm doing some benchmarking and profiling of STM32L vs. MSP430 -- it is a long process, but the signs aren't looking good for MSP430. Here are some of the preliminary, qualitative results. Lowest-Power Sleep: I've used LPM3 for MSP430F5 and STOP-mode for STM32L. These are the lowest-power modes that allow SRAM retention (and register retention) and a means for the MCU to schedule its own wakeup with a timer. Both of the devices use rough
  14. Hello all, Working on a little project using simple interrupts. I'm trying to trigger an interrupt whenever a certain pin CHANGES. i can get the interrupt to trigger when using FALLING and RISING edges but not change. I'm using Energia (if that matters). Does anyone know what the problem is? is there a certain lib i need to import? Thanks in advance, Jill
  15. Hi I write a code. But it didnt work. Led is burning and burning out not with range. Where is the problem #include "msp430g2452.h" #define tr BIT0 #define ec BIT1 #define led BIT6 int range=0; void main( void ) { WDTCTL = WDTPW + WDTHOLD; //watchdog stop DCOCTL=CALDCO_1MHZ; //frequency setup BCSCTL1=CALBC1_1MHZ; P1DIR = tr+led; P1OUT=0x00; //all are zero for(; { P1OUT^=tr; //Trigger is on for 10 us __delay_cycles(10); P1OUT^=tr; if(P1IN&ec) { range++; //when echo coming ran
  16. Hey everyone! Here is a Stepper Motor BoosterPack I have been working on that utilizes the DRV8825. I just ordered the boards today and will be working on some code samples while I wait on them. The DRV8825 can drive one bipolar stepper motor or two DC motors. It has a 8.2-V to 45-V supply range with 2.5-A peak at 24-V. I tried to design for the full operating range of the chip while maintaining the BoosterPack size guidelines. http://www.ti.com/product/drv8825 Let me know what you think! I am working on a BLDC Motor BoosterPack as well that I will post later. Motor_Driver_DRV8
  17. Hello, i bought my msp430 about 6~ months ago, i bought it because i liked the price 4.30$ is really good for a dev board, and now im looking at arduinos, of course i dont want to spent 25-30$ on a board and have been reading about buying just the chip and some other components , slap it on a breadboard and using it that way but the problem is that the atmega328 and pretty much any chip needs to be burned with a bootloader, i read that it could be done from another arduino, but can i do it from an msp430?
  18. Hello! I'm back with another sad question. Simple question though. Now that I seem to have a working UART interface, I have been wondering how to connect a launchpad to a GUI. I would like to write this in C#. I have the concept that it would be serial communication, so the launchpad would be the "Master" and the outside program would be considered the "Slave" right? How does one go about something as simple as this? I know how to simply create a serial port program in c#, I just seem to not understand how to set the LaunchPad up as the master. Does that make sense? It seem

  20. I have built a stepper motor control with MSP430 current pace. Rotates from side to side to the music of a microphone preamplifier is also included. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XM5dEp2zbN4&list=HL1370880169&feature=mh_lolz
  21. Hi everyone, I have a project that contains nokia 5110 lcd, msp430( it has g2553) and 8 connection cables between with lcd and msp430(There is no resistance or another thing). I should scale temperature and print on the 5110 lcd. I have 2 compiler programs which are Iar and energia. Additionally, I tried to set CCS but I couldn't set up, there was a mistake. Also, In IAR program any mistake occurs, I don't remember what is this problem. Thus, Energia compiler fully works but I couldn't find code. I want to code that used in energia compiler. Can anyone help me, please?
  22. In furtherance to the previous post of a hydraulic anti-jam project. Here's the whole e-waste recovery system working (almost) perfectly! arduinoforgoodnotevil.blogspot.ca/2013/06/msp430-powered-e-waste-crusher-and.html I am not a programmer. I wanted the MSP430 to attempt to clear the jam 5 times, then go into neutral to allow the hydraulics to cool down. It's not working. If I post the code is anyone willing to give me a little guidance?
  23. I'm trying to start working with a TI Launchpad on my Mac (I also have a Ubuntu virtual machine I can work in), and I want to program it in assembly using mspgcc. However, I'm getting confused with a lot of the information I'm finding about how to actually write code for this! Any assembly tutorials I find (even in the MSP430 Microcrontroller Basics book) use references such as #WDTPW|WDTHOLD, &WDTCTL or &P2OUT, and whenever I try to compile assembly files with those, mspgcc throws a bunch of errors about how it can't refernce those. So, what is the best way for a beginner look
  24. i have been sucessful(somewhat) in interfacing a PS2 keyboard with MSP430. usually for about ~25 keystrokes it works perfectly. after that parity error occurs in data and data after the corrupt-data is also corrupt. im supply keyboard 5V from external source and using POT to convert 5V to 3V. communication with keyboard is at 20-25Khz and MSP430 is running at 16Mhz. thing i tried (and didnt worked :-( ): tried another keyboard. circular queue to store temp data and then timer A1 to extract and decode. note: if im able to get first n data's then why is their a problem after that. im having 4
