  1. I am writing a program that is supposed to read the temperature from the MSP430's internal sensor, then display it through the LED's by making the red one blink the 10's digit and the green one blink the 1's digit. Pushing the button should toggle between Farenheit and Celcius, default Fahrenheit. My question is about the output of the analogRead(TEMPSENSOR) function. I know that the output of the function is an int between 0 and 1023 that maps to a range of 0 to 3 volts. What I don't understand is how that output translates to a temperature. I tested the function by just printing the
  2. Hello people, I'm doing a clock with MSP430g2553 chip.I need to make the text blink, each time I try set the hours, minutes, etc.. Example: HH... blink until I click in a button to jump to minutes; MM... blink until I click in a button to jump to seconds; can someone help me. Tanks in advance
  3. Hi, I am doing the standard Serial.begin(300); // This is what this has come down to ... Serial.println("Hello!"); Works swimmingly under Energia, can't get it to work under ccs v6b Beta. Wonder why? Tried Putty, tried Terminal built into ccs, even tried Energia's serial monitor. Tried different baud rates, different stop bit/parity, all other parameters (well, not combinations obviously). Why does not it work? (Other than this being a Beta) I only need serial for debug, so.. what are other alternatives that would help me debug this? Can I read/write to console? I suppos
  4. Hello all, I'm getting confused with the configuration of the clock in my G2553 device. I tried to find in the forum regarding this post but couldnt clear my doubt. 1.The DCOCTL has DCOx and MODx fields but there is no table in the user guide mentioning the values to be given to these fields to get the required DCO Freq. 2. To get 1Mhz DCO clock I used DCOCTL = CALDCO_1MHZ; BCSCTL1 = CALBC1_1MHZ; and I got 1MHz DCO. 3.When I check the DCOCTL and BCSCTL1 in the debugger the values are DCOCTL = 0xBC BCSCTL1= 0x86 4. It means that there is modulation. I dont know
  5. From the recent email received from TI announcing their new Connected LaunchPad line, I noticed the free partner service offered to Exosite. It is really cool to have the services of this kind, easy to configure for such a sophisticated communication platform. My only problem is I don't have one of those new shinny Connected LP.. actually TI won't sell those to where I live. But that doesn't stop my drive to test out this new exciting cloud! Firstly, an F5529LP with TI TMP006 temperature booster pack was selected as the test rig. This was a small project from last month that also w
  6. I'm calling in the MSP430 USB specialists. On Rev A of my standalone AIS Receiver board, I connect DP/DM (D+/D-) backwards to the MSP43F5508. After I realized the error, I cut the traces and patched it up with two short wires. Unfortunately the device is still not enumerated by the host. I use TI's USB library. USB_setup() completes successfully, but USB_connectionState() stays in the enumerating state forever while nothing happens on the PC. Could it be, that I killed the USB data inputs by having DP and DM connected the wrong way around? Any other suggestions on how to debug
  7. Hi all, I am new to MSP430 (and basically, topics on this forum) and I will probably ask some stupid questions, but I have to ask them anyway I just got myself a Launchpad, and I want to run this project http://nostarch.s3.amazonaws.com/arduino_project6.pdf using Energia. My questions are: 1) If I copy the Arduino code, change the connected pins in the code from D2,D4 and D6 to 6,7 and 8 base on this reference (P1.4, P1.5, P2.0) http://energia.nu/img/LaunchPadMSP430G2553-V1.5.jpg and connect it, will it work? 2) Do I have to use 3 x 560 Ohm & 1 x 2,2k Ohm resistors, as shown od
  8. This is a code library implementing a sockets-oriented interface to the WizNet W5200. It's been a long time coming, and the plan is to implement DHCP support soon; almost there, had to rewrite the lib from scratch to allow piecemeal I/O with various socket types first. For now, the code includes working examples for the MSP430G2553 and MSP430F5529 LaunchPads. It needs a lot of documentation work though so don't fret if you can't get them working :-) More to come... Link: https://github.com/spirilis/w5200sock After DHCP support is working on the older W5200, I am going to adap
  9. hi all, I'm trying to use an Ethernet module that i bought called "Ethernet LAN Module for Arduino / microcontrollers with SPI (ENC26J80)". I found a few example for it for different MSP430's but i cant get it to work. Does anyone know how to make it work? witch pins to connect and example code would be great. thanks, Ofer.
  10. Hello everyone. I am a beginner with the MSP430 and need help. I am using MSP430G2452 launchpad and another MSP430G2452 which is on a breadboard. I really just need help getting started. I hooked UART between the two and supplied both with voltages, is this the correct way to set it up or am I missing something? How is the J3 configuration supposed to be? Also, I do not know where to go with the coding. How do I program a simple LED on the breadboard from the second MSP430? Thank you so much in advance!!
  11. Hi everyone! I have been using the launchpad to read the CC1101 register from a door opener that are using this transceiver, but when i put the read registers in my smartRF04EB with RFStudio i cant read anything... can somebody help me?
  12. Hi, I've just started playing with the MSP430 (MSP430G2252) and i'm having lots of problems with getting myself up to speed. If anyone could help me out on the basic, it would be greatly appreciated... my background is in the hardware and i am no expert at programming For the beginning of my project (just to get me working on the right track), i'm trying to make a countdown with 2x 7segment displays while using a 16bit shift register. At startup, i need to read the value of Port1 (to find out the value to start the count from), calculate the 2x8bit value to be sent to the shift register .. t

This is the link to a video demo of my Team's project for Phase-1 of TI Innovation Challenge - India Analog Design Contest. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CXCpGwIeayQ We managed to come up with a fully working Indoor Navigation System using Visible Light Communication. Do take a look and give me your feedback. Regards Kevin Jerome
  14. Hi all, I use TI's Debug Interface Box MSP-FET430UIF with a MSP430G2252. On the spy Bi wire I/O line is the High and Low level of the data. What I cannot understand is, why no a low level does not generate a RST of the controller. Can anyone give me an answer? Kindly Regards Ulrich.
  15. Hi guys! I'm trying to use energia for a simple TX/RX with cc1101 and launchpad + msp430g2452, but i don't know how to use spi to comunicate cc1101 with msp430 in energia interface... can sombody help me? I'am using: Energia 0101E0011 windows 7 (64 bits)
  16. Hello, Problem Statement: I am trying to read in a square waveform from a function generator using the MSP430G2553 and whenever there is a falling edge the chip has to send out a ping to my laptop (I am using serial communication here for lack of knowledge on a better way). I then have to use MATLAB to read this "ping" coming from the MSP430G2553 and trigger another device. By reviewing some basics on serial communication and examples on the Energia documentation, I am able to generate a ping solely from the MSP430 chip (without any input from the function generator) and cause MATLAB
  17. Hey guys. I recently got a Launch pad -- MSP430G2 board ( Rev B ) [only the board and the USB cable from a friend]. I downloaded Energia for my Mac running OS X 10.9. [maverics]. Though the Power LED lights up, the board is not recognised by the IDE. I don't know if the problem is with the board, the cable or the IDE. Though the board was detected for a short period of time and I was able to just uplaod the Blink sketch into it. Now when I connect to a USB power or my MAC, led1 just keeps blinking. I am unable to program it. I hope you guys can help me spot the problem so that I ca
  18. hi guys, I tried to program msp430fr5739 ,but serial monitor shows nothing when digitalWrite is included in program When digitalWrite is removed rest of the program works correctly... can anyone help me with this...........I have attached my program below void setup() { pinMode(P2_0, OUTPUT); Serial.begin(9600); analogReference(DEFAULT); } void loop() { int sensor=analogRead(A0); float tempvoltage = sensor*(3.6/1023.0); float temperature = sensor*(100.0/1023.0);//min.value=0 max.value=100 if (sensor >= 987) { temphigh(); delay(100); } else {
  19. I couldn't find an example of someone using the Raspberry Pi as a receiving hub for sensor nodes that use the spirilis nRF24L01+ library and a MSP430G2553. I thought I would give it a shot since I think this would be beneficial to the community. I found a C library for the Raspberry Pi and nRF24L01+: https://github.com/stanleyseow/RF24. Class reference is here: http://maniacbug.github.io/RF24/classRF24.html There is also a newer python library but I haven
  20. Hello, I tried to use my MSP430G2553 launchpad with a keypad (https://www.sparkfun.com/products/8653) using http://www.pjrc.com/teensy/td_libs_Keypad.html http://bildr.org/2011/05/arduino-keypad/ http://www.instructables.com/id/Using-the-sparkfun-12-Button-keypad-with-the-ardu/ http://www.ti.com/lit/an/slaa139/slaa139.pdf (i just tried schematic with Energia code) http://little-scale.blogspot.com/2011/10/how-to-connect-keypad-to-arduino-simple.html (prints blank lines in same row , buttons doesn't work except 2,5,8,0 and they print "y") #include <Keypad.h> const byte ROWS = 4; //
  21. I have MSP430 launchpad with MSP430G2553 on it. And I have CC2530 based RF modules. I want to program this RF modules with using MSP430 I/O pins, is it possible? If it is, how ? I found programs like Z-stack, simpliciT and smartrf flash programmer. Can I use some of them for this purpose? Or at which step should I use which one?
  22. Hello, I am trying to interface my MSP430G2553 launchpad with an LCD (http://www.winstar.com.tw/UserFiles/ProductImages/12523136510757108108.jpg) but my characters look weird. I am using http://www.fibidi.com/arduino-lcd-16x2-characters/ with one potentiometer , with changing ports like this: #include <LiquidCrystal.h> // initialize the library with the numbers of the interface pins //LiquidCrystal lcd(8,9,4,5,6,7); LiquidCrystal lcd(P2_4,P2_5,P2_0,P2_1,P2_2,P2_3); void setup() { lcd.begin(16,2); lcd.setCursor(0,0); lcd.print("Hel

    MSP430 Xmas

This year, LaunchPad has a very special assignment during the holidays - to control our Xmas tree lights. So far, more than 20 different sequences are programmed into G2553. Piano pedal connected to LP allows easy selection. Finally, my wife can have Xmas lights she likes, one day white, another day warm colors, then maybe little strobe light here and there, and so on. There are 100 WS2811 pixels on the tree (those lights look much, much better in real life) (You can see LP right above the train, tiny green light.) MSP430 is also used to power my 10W RGB flood lights.
  24. Hi guys! I am trying to interface with SPI flash,I am trying to write byte to buffer 1 and after read it, The byte i have send and recived are not the same. Cant figure out my fault. /* * main.c */ #include "msp430.h" #include "stdint.h" #define SPIRXBUF UCB0RXBUF #define SPI_SEND(x) UCB0TXBUF=x #define SPITXREADY (IFG2&UCB0TXIFG) /* Wait for TX to be ready */ #define SPITXDONE (UCB0STAT&UCBUSY) /* Wait for TX to finish */ #define SPIRXREADY (IFG2&UCB0RXIFG) /* Wait for TX to be ready */ #define SPIRXFG_CLR IFG2 &= ~UCB0RXIFG #define dummy 0xff #define
