Yeah, we have a Fry's in Austin. It's a bit overwhelming when you walk in there. Anything from home appliances and stereo equipment to computer parts and electronics components. They have a large selection of small electronics kits, tools and parts. Even carry a lot of smd parts as well. Most (99%) of their parts are NTE brand.

I'd give them a  and a :!!!: with a little  mixed in.

    Hmmm. Sad.
Did you explore thoroughly? I asked about soldering irons in the one I went to (Woodland Hills, CA?), and the employee looked at me like I was asking for left-handed pfribbits. I looked a bit more and discovered a short aisle full of soldering accessories and at least a dozen types of soldering devices from 25W pencils, to full rework stations. (Even found a nice kit for the kids with iron, solder, cutters, and a through-hole siren kit for $10!)

At that same store, they had two sections of components. They were kind of in the middle of unrelated stuff, though. I know I saw thermistors and 10-turn pots that I nearly bought (spent $150 as it was).

Don't judge all Fry's by that one is all I'm saying.

If you all haven't figured it out by now, I'm a freelancing embedded systems engineer and it's a struggle to find work these days.

While looking around for contracts, someone recommended that I check out guru.com.

I thought I'd ask y'all, has anyone here used this website before?

Is it the Mos Eisley spaceport?

I also began to do a breakout, but i didn't want to make a msp430f55xx-only breakout. Why? Because it's hard to sell in time (probably no problem over longer period - but i must finance them first). You can only get the best price when buying a higher quantity - but how much can you sell of these breakouts? Just ask the people in this forum. (I got the best discount for a quantity of about 200-250 pieces - depending on the size (~63mm x 23 mm))

    1$ / board with tin-finish, solder-mask etc.? Where do you order? (i can't go under 1

I quit cigarettes 20 years ago. But when I was active-duty military, I tried a hookah in Kuwait. They had a lot of interesting flavors of tobacco; came in compressed little blocks. I didn't care for it much.

We also had a tradition to have a cigar the night before we headed home. Most places we went, we could get real Cuban cigars. They were quite good.

Eh. The Fry's I went to wasn't that great. They had lots of computer and software and books, etc, but I couldn't find a good selection of components and when I asked for a thermistor, they showed me a thermometer/thermostat aisle.

    Hey Guys and Gals,

I will post updates of my experiments with the evalbot in case anyone is interested.
But feel free to post your own projects or relevant stuff as well. I left the topic title general, hoping some activity might evolve here.
For now, I will start with an overview and drive tests with the pre-loaded firmware. Nothing new yet for those that know it, but i like to keep a nice and complete overview of my projects:

And I figured out the port mentioned in the video, the evalbot actually has 3 (!!) USB ports. One for debugging/programming, one for USB Host, and one for USB Device

    Expect more soon.

    Cheers!
    MarkoeZ

p.s. Anyone know of a good forum discussing the Evalbot/Stellaris Microcontrollers? (nothing wrong with this one ofc, but more dedicated perhaps)

Well not only is Fry's known for it's huge selection but also it's extremely high employee turnover rate. They're definitely not known for hiring the best and brightest.

My bro shared a spare ipad he had with me. I am frustrated by the lack of "control" it offers to the user, but impressed with the compact package and speed. Looking at the posts, i am a little confused:

    It runs on iOS correct?
I also understand this is similar to MacOS X?
Will the drivers for OS X work on the ipad?
    Can I install drivers manually?

Seems like it might be easier to fashion a bluetooth or WiFi connection to the LP than get the USB working directly

    TIA, KB

I would just get an iMac. I had many Macs before and always went for PowerMacs, but for the past few years, even the lowest iMac offers more than I need and the best part, only one wire (especially now, when no wires are needed for syncing iOS5 devices.)

$4.25 for shipping. Once the group buy ends you will get the final price, but it should be around $1.50 to $1.05 a board:

    Best Case: $7.40 ( 4.25 + (3 x 1.05) )
    Worst Case: $8.75 ( 4.25 + (3 x 1.50) )

Unless we opt in for EMS.
