  1. Hi, Minimal standalone DS89C450 board with CH340 UART bridge and micro USB connector. Four LED's (blue power, yellow loader, green and red can be connected with jumpers to P0.1 and P0.2 pins) and reset button. On board is 16.384 MHz crystal (same as on DS89C450-KIT) that doubled make 33 MHz MCLK, and support 28800 bps UART. Price for board with DS89C450 chip and (EU) shipping with tracking is 25$ (paypal). demo.zip

  4. In my case, as you can see, intensity (brightness) of each segment is equal. To have this, time for displaying number "1" must be shorter than time for displaying number "6" (last digit). There is no any resistors. Common anode/cathode is powered by extra lvc logic gate, not by transistor, so hardware and software as it is, support both options, and mixed combination (for example 1 digit can be common anode and another 2 common cathode). It is codded in assembler, refreshing interrupt (0.5 ms per segment ~ 5 ms per digit) is triggered by WDT (timer peripheral is not used), and in worst case scenario, interrupt will take about 30 CPU cycles.
  5. This is OK, but my MSP430G2533 7-segment working (multiplexing) digit-by-digit without resistors. Current (and brightness) is handled by PWM (WD). Device (PDIP) is mounted under the display.

  11. There is no problem today to find any IC from any semiconductor company in tiny package. Problem is to find something new in PDIP. MSP430G2553, and other TI MSP devices can be found in TSSOP and QFN package.

We are on Energia topic, so I guess that if you want to use Energia for developement, there is limited number of boards or MSP430 devices with pin mapping, by default supported by Energia (MSP430G2553, MSP430F5529, MSP430FR4133, MSP430FR5739, MSP430FR5969, MSP430FR6989). All FRAM devices are with 20-bit CPU Xv2, same as 5xx/6xx flash family, but they are limited by FRAM wait states. However, it is easier to write to FRAM (same as RAM), than to flash, during runtime. For TI, flash 2xx/5xx/6xx family is finished story, and today they are pushing FRAM family. eZ-FET on G2 LP is limited with not updatable firmware and to some of 2xx SBW target, with 9600 bps USB-UART bridge. New LP's are with updatable eZ-FET Lite on board (open software and hardware) that can program all TI MSP430 SBW devices, 115200 bps USB-UART bridge and Energy trace. I guess that you can develop your project on Energia with G2 LP (that you already have), and than later (if there is need for this) port it to some other device.

  15. This is device without SBW support, so firmware can be uploaded only by master device that support full JTAG connection (TI MSP-FET or MSP-FET430UIF), not by Launchpads. This device is with UART BSL, but AFAIK Energia (by default) doesn't support this. However, if you are fine with using BSL, than customized command line for flashing, for TI BSL_Scripter can be inserted inside Energia, and firmware can be uploaded by IDE button.   17. No, 5529 is not 16-bit device. It is with CPUvX2 that have 20-bit registers and 20-bit assembler instructions. Some of this instructions (so called address instructions) can be executed in one cycle. BTW, also, all FRAM devices are with 20-bit registers and 20-bit assembler instructions.
  18. Maybe this f432 is somehow related to MSP432? Because I can find any VID / PID in Energia (boards.txt file) related to MSP-EXP430F5529LP, MSP-EXP430FR4133LP, MSP-EXP430FR5969LP, MSP-EXP430FR6989LP, MSP-EXP430G2553LP or MSP-EXP430FR5739LP and identical to this numbers (0451, f432).   19. I put IC's on the board center position without breaking (too much) ground layer with other lines. Better heating dispersion and easier connection / layout with other components.

  22. MSP432P401/4111 is without USB, with 1.6 - 3.7V VCC range, similar to MSP430. MSP432E is with USB, but VCC is 3 - 3.6V, nothing for me here. EDIT: Also noticed that 432P401/4111 still have ports (some with mapping option) similar to MSP430, 432E don't.
  23. You just need to edit configuration (text) files, and then Energia will call external CLI application (MSP430-Flasher) for downloading code. Interface between TI FET an target device will be handled by MSP430-Flasher that will automatically detect connected FET, not by Energia anymore. Downloading code will be done by upload button on original / unmodified Interface, simple as it is. It is all explained here, but instead my flasher, command line parameters for MSP430-Flasher should be used.
  24. AFAIK, any LP is with virtual com port, that is not needed by Energia. I didn't noticed any Energia popup with something like "missing virtual com port", when there was no virtual com port available. As I allready noted, I don't see any problems related to downloading code by SBW with MSP430-Flasher by any LP. Problem is in missing Energia header / library files for unsupported devices.
