    ez430 case removal

If you hold it so that the TI logo is face up and readable, in the lower right corner of it, there's a notch between the two parts. Take off the end cap and open up the case with this notch using a flat-head screwdriver. It's a sturdy case, it'll be fine. At least, that's how I open mine. Two places NOT to try to open it are the circular hole and the square hole near the bottom of the case. There are capacitors there, and if you accidentally bump one of them off, the programmer part of the device becomes useless. Hope this helps!

    ez430 case removal

Its tough to pull apart, yes.. Try a screwdriver or a knife wedged in the edge and lever it out.

    MSP430 LaunchPad, basic uart

sloso: Welcome again! UART can be done in software. NJC has been the leader in implementing this. Check for UART posts in these forums (search for "UART"), and see NJC's blog at http://www.msp430launchpad.com/ . You should have no trouble adapting the code, NJC's really good at commenting.

  4. The USI has hardware support for SPI and I2C, but not UART. Some of the nicer MSP430's have UART capability. It looks like NJC was able to implement UART with the Launchpad using an ftdi breakout board from sparkfun. http://www.msp430launchpad.com/2010/08/ ... -uart.html EDIT: By the way, welcome to the forums! Be sure to check out the code section for some project ideas.
