  1. Hello, I'm using MSP430F5131 and trying to program it by IAR Embedded Workbench while using the MSP-FET debugger. A short background of the PCB: After i compiled the code in IAR with not errors found , i connected the MSP-FET to the MSP430 in a Spi-Bi-Wire connection according to the datasheet. The MSP430 is placed in a PCB which includes 12V input voltage and 2 regulators of 5V and 3.3V . The MSP430 I/O's are connected according to the datasheet (including external pullup resistors and capacitors) along with the Spi-Bi-Wire connections. I energized the PCB with a 12V supply voltage , connected the MSP-FET's connector to a Header connector on the PCB and the other side connected to the PC by USB. My problem is : In the IAR , once i try to download the code into the MSP430 (by clicking the 'Download and Debug' button) it says that it needs a firmware update , so i clicked ok and download the new update , but when it tries to initialize hardware i encounter the error : "Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported) Session aborted!" I have tried multiple things in order to find the solution - with no success . Does the AVcc and AVss needs to be connected even if i dont use any analog options? coz its not connected to anything. I also tried to download the program to the MSP430 with code composer studio but encounter the same error. Thanks in advance.

Hello , I am using MSP430F5131, IAR Workbench compiler and i have purchased MSP-FET. i have successfully compiled my code in IAR Workbench , although when i try to download the program through the MSP-FET using the IAR Workbench (i have clicked on download and debbug and it has started to initialize the device) i encountered this error : Fatal error: Could not find device (or device not supported) Session aborted! Thanks in advance
  3. So, I saw this neat little button in Code Composer Studio that is for 'EnergyTrace'. Very nice feature. However, when I try to use it I get "Error communicating EnergyTrace pod." I am currently using the Launchpad for MSP430. MSP-EXP430G2 Anyway, I was looking online and it says to use EnergyTrace you need the MSP-FET or the ez-FET-lite? I can't find how to buy the ez-FET-lite anywhere. Is there a way to use EnergyTrace with just the MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad, or do I actually need other hardware. What is the least expensive way to get EnergyTrace support with my MSP-EXP430G2 launchpad?
  4. A few of us now have the MSP-FET - mainly thanks to TI's ESI project. The target boards are great if you want to prototype something quickly and need to use a device that's only in a SMT package. However they're quite enpensive for hobbyist use. I thought it worth mentioning that I found a US eBay seller hrojas with some target boards for $20 each. He even did me a deal on international shipping as I bought a few. He's got the following: TS430PW28A, TS430RGC64USB, TS430PZ100B, TS430PS24, TS430L092, TS430RGC64C I also noticed that the target boards listed a while ago with TI deals on them are still at that low price - or in some cases even lower. They're shown as full price on the TI site but if you click "buy from TI" the price in your shopping cart is lower. I think I checked them all and these are the ones that come up cheaper than listed. (Some by a lot, some not so much.) These are perhaps the ones that are a little less in demand and aren't selling so well, but they might be useful.   5. I received my MSP-FET yesterday-- thank you TI! I was so excited to try out everything. I was deflated to find out that my package only contained the programmer-- hopefully the target board and MSP430FR6989s will arrive soon. It almost felt like Christmas morning-- only to find out the batteries were not included! I wanted to test out my new toy so I hooked up the MSP-FET to some MSP430 chips I hand nearby. I hooked up the MSP-FET to a MSP430G2231 and started Energia on Mac OS X 10.9.4. Although the MSP-FET is seen by the OS, I can't seem to connect to it. On System Info, the vendor/product ID are 0x2047/0x0014 with a description of "MSP Tools Driver." Here are my issues 1) Energia can't connect. Does mspdebug v 0.22 not work with the MSP-FET? Is this a libmsp430.so issue? I was using the one supplied with the latest version of Energia (E0013). 3) If I run CCS6 under VirtualBox, things sort of work. When I start a debug session, I get a message "Error initializing emulator: A firmware update is required for the MSP430 Debug Interface (MSP-FET430UIF / MSP-FET / eZ-FET). Click the "Update" button to update the firmware and launch your debug session (this may require several update steps). DO NOT UNPLUG THE INTERFACE DURING THE UPDATE." If I click UPDATE, the MSP-FET gets bjorked. Probably because of the way virtualbox hands off USB devices between host and guest OSs. I am thinking the USB VID and/or PID are being altered during the update. Regardless, things don't work afterwards and I can't seem to unbjork things without using a physical Windows computer running CCS6. The physical WIndows computer can update the MSP-FET firmware. Curious thing is that after updating the firmware, CCS6 running on virtualized Windows, still wants to upgrade the firmware with the same message above. If on the other hand, I choose the button to IGNORE the firmware update, things start OK and I can start a debug session. Problem is that sometimes I get a error message "MSP430: Trouble Halting Target CPU: Internal error." Things don't work so well afterwards but nothing that a unplug, replug won't fix. 4) I know the MSP-FET is working OK because if I use it on a physical Windows machine, I can program a device, set breakpoints, stop/resume, see energy usage, etc. It works flawlessly. It's a bit disappointing I can't seem to get it to work with mspdebug or virtualized Windows running CCS6.
